School Employees Suits

The union that represents Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District's 875 classified employees is suing the district for overtime pay for working two days union officials say were national holidays. The disputed days occurred in April, 1991, following the end of the Persian Gulf War.

Contending he was harassed, discriminated against and ultimately fired because of his age, a 57-year-old maintenance worker filed a discrimination lawsuit Wednesday against the exclusive Buckley School. Ronald Glasgow said he was persecuted from "day one" by a younger, less experienced supervisor because of his age, and then--despite 20 years of maintenance experience and having received verbal and written commendations for his work--fired in September, 1993, 10 months after he was hired.

A former employee of the Beverly Hills Unified School District has filed a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and harassment by the district and sexual harassment by a school board member. The suit was filed May 2 in Los Angeles Superior Court, by Janeese M. Bland, a former secretarial assistant in the personnel department. She seeks $375,000 in lost pay and damages and unspecified punitive damages. The district has denied the allegations.
