Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass surely never imagined that the Winter Warlock from their 1970 TV Christmas special “Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town” would go into improv. The Troubadour Theater Company (“the Troubies”) first cast the Warlock in “Santa Claus Is Comin' to Motown” at the Falcon Theatre in 2004. The breakout star, known fondly as Winter, has become a staple of their annual holiday mash-ups. This year, in “Walkin' in a Winter One-Hit-Wonderland,” Winter attempts the transition from bit player to lead, determined to prove that, “like Scott Baio," as he puts it, he can carry a show.

Scott Baio, who was Chachi on "Happy Days" and "Joanie Loves Chachi" and Charles on "Charles in Charge," is now the star of "See Dad Run," the first scripted comedy from Nick at Nite. Without being actually privy to the internal memos, I would guess that the series, which premieres Sunday, exists to follow the lead of rival TV Land, which has already added some original - in the sense of new - old-fashioned sitcoms to its rotation of actually old sitcoms. "Hot in Cleveland," with Valerie Bertinelli and Betty White, was the first; "The Soul Man," with Cedric the Entertainer is the latest.

Scott Baio may have starred in three of his own series, but he doesn't mind being a co-star in CBS' light murder-mystery series, "Diagnosis Murder." "I'm perfectly content to play second banana to Dick Van Dyke," Baio says from his new Los Angeles home. "That's a chance that doesn't come around that often. Nah, I don't have any problems with it. I love him and it's where I want to be." Baio is one of those rare actors who chose television over feature films.

Talking It Up: Scott Baio, late of "Charles in Charge," will be joining ABC's "Baby Talk" this fall, playing a building superintendent and aspiring songwriter on the Friday night comedy series. Baio will have a close relationship with the precocious 18-month-old baby whose thoughts are heard by the audience, but getting to know the baby's mother (Mary Page Keller) won't be as easy.

"Kids in Motion." Playhouse. $19.98. This is a pleasant, hourlong exercise kidvid, most notable for its guest stars: Scott Baio hosts, children's song artists Greg & Steve perform and the Temptations sing the title song. Mom-type Julie Weissman leads a group of preschoolers in dance and exercise games such as Animal Action, Beanbag Boogie and Tummy Tango. Baio does quick intros and pops up with encouraging words. The emphasis is low-key and casual. Information: (212) 819-3200. ** 1/2.

Scott Baio was a tender 15 when fame tapped him on the shoulder and changed his life forever. The TV show was "Happy Days," he played Chachi, and Joanie would eventually love him. America too. But he's a married father of 47 now and hosting a new VH1 show that ruminates on the whole young-fame thing: "Confessions of a Teen Idol," premiering at 8 p.m. Sunday.
