For seven innings the Angels could do nothing against Minnesota starter Scott Baker , managing only six hits. At that point, in their last 37 innings on the road they had scored just one run. Then the Twins went to the bullpen and everything changed — much of it on one swing of Erick Aybar's bat. Aybar hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning, on reliever Dusty Hughes' first pitch, starting the Angels on their way to 6-5...

While changing lanes Monday evening on the Pomona Freeway at the southbound Orange (57) Freeway interchange, Francisco Neri of Rowland Heights collided with a vehicle driven by Scott Baker of Sacramento. Although his pickup truck was engulfed in flames after overturning and skidding 100 feet, Neri suffered only minor injuries, and Scott was unhurt. An off-duty paramedic attended to Neri, right, while Scott watched. Two lanes were closed for more than an hour after the crash.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Rookie Taylor Teagarden broke up Scott Baker's perfect-game bid with a sixth-inning home run and caught Vicente Padilla's gem Sunday as the Texas Rangers beat the Minnesota Twins, 1-0. "The only thing he didn't do was clean the stadium after the game," Texas closer C.J. Wilson said. The Rangers handed the Twins only their eighth defeat in 31 games. Baker (6-3) took a hard-luck loss, his first in six starts.

MINNEAPOLIS -- A week and a half ago, the Minnesota Twins were 9 1/2 games back in the AL Central race and reeling after an embarrassing three-game sweep in Toronto. Things have changed dramatically in 11 days. With division leader Cleveland and second-place Detroit slumping, the Twins are again within reach of a playoff berth. "We smell blood right now," Torii Hunter said after Minnesota's 1-0 win against the Indians on Sunday. "We're ready to go."

Jeremy Bonderman began his All-Star campaign in style Sunday night. Bonderman beat Scott Baker in an old-fashioned pitchers' duel, and Marcus Thames homered with two out in the eighth inning to send the Detroit Tigers to a 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Bonderman (9-1) gave up six hits in eight innings, striking out seven and walking one. The right-hander is among five AL players on the Internet ballot for the final roster spot on the All-Star team, and voting will take place this week.
