Police were searching Saturday for a man who caused a three-vehicle crash in Oxnard that injured five people, two seriously. The crash occurred just after 1 a.m. Saturday in the intersection of Ventura and Gonzales roads, said Oxnard Police Cmdr. Scott Whitney. A man driving a 1997 Chevy Tahoe pickup truck collided with a Nissan pickup and a Dodge Stratus. The driver of the Tahoe then abandoned his truck and fled on foot, Whitney said.

A 20-year-old Oxnard man was in custody Saturday in the stabbing death of an Oxnard police dog. Timothy Paul Knight was booked into Ventura County Jail as a suspect on a variety of charges stemming from an incident Friday night. Knight allegedly stabbed 4-year-old Rudy as the dog tried to subdue him during a confrontation with an Oxnard police officer. Rudy was taken to an emergency pet hospital, where he was declared dead. "It's more than just a dog dying," Cmdr. Scott Whitney said.

A man who was shot in the chest Tuesday night during an apparent drive-by shooting in south Oxnard was found by police bloodied and running down a residential street looking for help. The unidentified man, in his 20s, was taken by ambulance to St. John's Regional Medical Center after the 8 p.m. shooting, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Scott Whitney. The man would not give police his name or assist them in their search for his assailant, Whitney said.

A burglary suspect who led police on a high-speed car chase through an Oxnard neighborhood before fleeing on foot was arrested after a scuffle with an officer, police said. Julian Garcia Rodriguez, 29, of Oxnard was arrested Friday after a struggle with Officer Scott Whitney, whose leg was cut by a steak knife in Rodriguez's pocket. Whitney was treated at a nearby hospital and released, police said.

A Mexican national with at least 19 aliases was one of two men arrested Friday morning in a narcotics bust at a house in the Colonia area of Oxnard. At 8 a.m., detectives from the Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Ventura police departments served a search warrant in the 1800 block of Gaucho Way, and arrested 24-year-old Albert Torres on two counts of violating probation, according to Oxnard Police Det. Scott Whitney. Also arrested was 48-year-old Cornelio Mejia Hernandez of Mexico.

A lucky break has led to the apprehension of a murder suspect by Oxnard police. Victor Chavez Rivera, 47, was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of killing his former girlfriend earlier that day in the Northern California city of Salinas. Alerted by the Salinas Police Department, Oxnard Officers Scott Whitney and Tim Lucas stopped by Rivera's place of employment, an Oxnard packing plant. While they were there, Rivera called and Whitney persuaded him to turn himself in.

Two Oxnard men were arrested Friday after they allegedly stole a man's car after brandishing a gun and a knife, police said. Victor Aguiar, 24, and his brother, Gabriel, 18, are each charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon and car theft following the 2:30 p.m. incident, Sgt. Scott Whitney said. He said Tony Briones, 24, was working on his car in the garage of his home in the 5100 block of Saviers Road when the suspects, whom he knew, approached him.

Oxnard police recovered the stolen car of a 90-year-old retired elementary school teacher a little more than a day after she reported it missing, authorities said. About 10 p.m. Friday, Florence Johnston reported her 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass stolen from in front of her house in the 200 block of Ash Street, police said. "I told the police officer that I had an appointment next week to renew my driver's license, and I was worried that I wouldn't get it back in time," Johnston said.
