West Virginia quarterback Pat White led two scoring drives and passed for 95 yards as the South defeated the North, 35-18, Saturday in the Senior Bowl at Mobile, Ala., a showcase for many of college football's top prospects. The most prolific running quarterback in major-college history, White stood out among a group of high-profile signal callers and was the most valuable player of the game.

UCLA's Shaquelle Evans has some unfinished business, which he intends to wrap up in Alabama. Evans, a senior, was invited to play in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 25, an all-star showcase game for NFL general managers and scouts. “It is something I have worked for since the end of last year,” Evans said. “It's a big game for seniors. I wanted to make sure I got there.” Evans leads the Bruins with 43 receptions for 617 yards and eight touchdowns. He has 122 receptions for 1,803 yards and 13 touchdowns in three years at UCLA.

USC tailback Stafon Johnson , who suffered season-ending throat injuries in a September weightlifting accident, has accepted an invitation to participate in the Jan. 30 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Johnson could have opted to petition the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility, but he has been expected to make himself available for the NFL draft. The Senior Bowl includes a week of practices in front of NFL coaches and scouting personnel. "He's grateful to the Senior Bowl for giving him this chance," USC Coach Pete Carroll said in a statement.

Cincinnati's Mardy Gilyard had 103 yards receiving and caught a 32-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to help the North race to a 31-13 victory over the South in Saturday's Senior Bowl at Mobile, Ala. Florida quarterback Tim Tebow , meanwhile, had a shaky outing running a pro-style offense against a sturdy defense. Tebow fumbled twice and completed eight of 12 passes for 50 yards in the showcase for senior NFL prospects. His longest completion was 11 yards and he netted four yards in four rushes but was never turned loose as a power runner as he often was with the Gators.

Running back Justin Fargas received an invitation Tuesday to participate in the Senior Bowl all-star game, an indication that the fifth-year senior's recent performances have caught the attention of NFL scouts. The Senior Bowl, which will be played Jan. 18 in Mobile, Ala., annually attracts NFL scouts, coaches and general managers. "I don't want to make a big deal about it because there are more important things at hand," Fargas said. "We have two more games and a bowl game.

The L.A. Prep Senior Football Bowl at Culver City High was called with 4:43 left in the third quarter Saturday night because of fan violence. Officials decided to end the game when fans began to scatter in the North-East stands late in the third quarter. That incident followed a fight in the South-West stands at the end of the first half, which apparently included a gun being fired with 13 seconds left in the half.

Shane Walton needed to touch the ball only once to make the biggest play. The Notre Dame defensive back returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help the North win the Senior Bowl, 17-0, on Saturday at Mobile, Ala. Walton outshined some of college football's biggest names, picking off Texas quarterback Chris Simms' pass at the goal line and racing untouched down the left sideline with 9:13 left.

The Senior Bowl has snared a record 10 players from the University of Alabama, including All-American linebacker Cornelius Bennett. For one day, the Auburn-Alabama rivalry was put on hold. Stan White, the quarterback who directed Auburn to an 11-0 season, teamed with Alabama receiver Kevin Lee for a 50-yard touchdown pass Saturday, giving the South a 35-32 victory over the North in the Senior Bowl. White's third touchdown pass of the game came with 2:52 to play after the North had scored 22 consecutive points to take its first lead.

USC's new coaching staff continues to take on a Tennessee flavor. Coach Lane Kiffin announced Wednesday that he has hired assistant James Cregg , Tennessee's offensive line coach last season. Cregg, 36, is the third coach from Kiffin's Tennessee staff to move to USC, joining Ed Orgeron , the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, and Monte Kiffin , the defensive coordinator. Before coaching at Tennessee, Cregg was an offensive line assistant for the Oakland Raiders during Kiffin's brief tenure with the NFL team.

About 1,000 USC football fans, many wearing replicas of Carson Palmer's No. 3 jersey, showed up Wednesday at Heritage Hall as the school unveiled Palmer's Heisman Trophy and retired his number. Palmer, the school's fifth Heisman winner and the first Trojan quarterback to win college football's most prestigious award, took a welcome break from pre-NFL draft training to attend the ceremony. "It's been pretty much one thing after another," he said. "It's great to be back here for a great honor."

Christian Okoye, a Little All-American from Azusa Pacific, set a Senior Bowl scoring record with four touchdowns and enhanced his position among NFL scouts Saturday as the South edged the North, 42-38. "Even I got excited," South Coach Don Shula of the Miami Dolphins said of the highest-scoring game in Senior Bowl history. "Coming from the NAIA to the Senior Bowl, I had a lot to learn," Okoye said. "I thought I did what I had to do to impress the scouts."
