A man accused of being the Zodiac killer, whose crime spree terrorized and intrigued New York City in the early 1990s, went on trial on three counts of murder. The trial of Heriberto "Eddie" Seda, 30, began on a dramatic note in the Queens borough courtroom when he demanded new lawyers. State Supreme Court Judge Robert Hanophy threatened to restrain the distraught Seda, who faces three charges of murder and one charge of attempted murder.

A sniper who fires through the windows of late-night businesses on Long Island struck for a third time in two weeks, police said Thursday. Police believe one person is responsible for the attacks, which have apparently targeted victims at random. "Aspects of the ballistics give us cause to believe they may be connected," said Detective Lt. John Gierasch, commander of Suffolk County homicide squad.
