Kickboxing is coming to the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Sept. 8. Fight organization K-1, which recently signed a television deal with the Spike cable channel, is to stage 12 or more kickboxing fights on the Sports Arena card, with eight men entered in the U.S. Grand Prix Championships' heavyweight division. Tickets have been on sale since late July, and K-1 Chief Executive Doug Kaplan said a sellout is possible. It looks like Elite XC, the upstart mixed martial arts organization featuring Kimbo Slice, is down for the count. ProElite, Inc., Elite XC's Los Angeles-based parent company, plans to file for bankruptcy, said T. Jay Thompson, an Elite XC executive consultant, whose Hawaii-based MMA organization was purchased by ProElite last year. Elite XC has also informed fighters, office staff and others of immediate layoffs and has canceled fight dates, including a Nov. 8 card in Reno, Thompson said.

As we say each year at this time, television has its Emmys, music has its Grammys and sports has its dummies. There were the obvious ones this year: John Daly, O.J. Simpson, Pacman Jones, Terrell Owens, Sean Avery, Roger Clemens, Marion Jones, Plaxico Burress, Isiah Thomas. In some cases, too obvious. In other cases, too pathetic. These are our dummies for 2008: This item is NOT brought to you by Ben-Gay The American Family Assn. is a Christian organization with a website called onenewsnow.com.
