Re "Appetite for Scandal Altering Political Menu," Jan. 10: By virtue of humanity's flawed nature, everyone who "self-righteously" upholds standards of decency, personal morality and objective truth is a hypocrite at times. Hustlers like Larry Flynt, James Carville and, yes, Bill "legally accurate" Clinton, who fail to uphold such standards by subscribing to the "progressive," modern, secular philosophy that multiple wrongs make a right, are rarely accused of being hypocrites. Wake up, America.

If President Obama were photographed coming and going from a younger woman's apartment at all hours of the day and night, would most Americans care? Uh, yeah. I mean, see Clinton, Bill, and Lewinsky, Monica. In France, though, President Francois Hollande is knee-deep in just such l'affaire , having been photographed coming and going from the apartment of a younger woman, actress Julie Gayet. PHOTO ESSAY: Chris Christie, President Obama and the 'ignorance is bliss' dodge And do the French care?

Re "Governor of N.Y. linked to call girl," March 11 If and when every politician has the dignity to resign because of conduct that has been deemed as unbecoming of his public office, then New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer should follow their lead. Idaho Sen. Larry Craig and Louisiana Sen. David Vitter, to name a few, should show Spitzer how it's done. Joe Martinez El Segundo It is unlikely that I will become a public figure, be linked to a prostitution ring or hold a news conference.

PARIS -- French President Francois Hollande is expected to use his traditional new year's news conference Tuesday to announce reforms to kick-start the country's economy, combat widespread unemployment and boost his lamentable popularity with the public. However, the event risks being hijacked by a very different affair of state that is dominating French headlines: the president's alleged trysts with an actress. Hollande's personal and political woes began Friday when a celebrity magazine published a seven-page "special report" complete with photographs of the president, 59, crossing Paris on the back of a scooter, apparently to rendezvous with 41-year-old actress Julie Gayet.

In response to "Seminary's 'Terrible Truths' Are Detailed," Dec. 1: Sexual abuse in the Catholic Church is no different from that which occurs elsewhere in society; it did not suddenly increase with Vatican II and hedonism in America. Women served as priests in the first centuries of the Christian church. They deserve to serve again at a time when the priesthood in America is suffering from a lack of qualified candidates. And Cardinal Ratzinger, Pope John Paul's resident theologian, should vacate his office to a candidate with more knowledge of scriptural scholarship, in order that the church promulgate more spiritually accurate information about human sexuality both within and outside of marriage.

Sex scandals come in all sizes and shapes. And public opinions on matters of the heart - and the libido - continue to evolve. As a result, constituents are not always sure anymore when to be blase, when to be nonplused and when to be outraged by the behavior of their elected officials. Should Bill Clinton have been hounded out of office (as he almost was) for a dalliance with a 22-year-old intern? Should John Edwards have been sidelined from politics because he fathered a child with his mistress while his wife was dying of cancer?

A sex scandal is roiling Waffle House 's chairman, and like the chain's hash browns, he has been scattered, covered and peppered in the news this week. After being accused of sexual harassment by a former employee, Joseph Rogers Jr. claimed he had been blackmailed, according to ABC News .  The Waffle House chairman's former housekeeper filed an incident report with the Atlanta Police Department alleging that he had demanded she perform sexual acts on him in order to keep her job. Rogers said that during a nearly eight-year period, he had a "series of infrequent consensual sexual encounters" with the woman, who ABC News was not identifying due to the allegations, but claimed he was a victim of blackmail.

Although political scandals date to the country's earliest days, attention to sex-related wrongdoing in Congress began in earnest in the 1970s. Here are some examples from the last 10 years: 2011 Rep. Christopher Lee (R-N.Y.), who is married, resigned hours after news reports that he sent a shirtless photo of himself to a woman through Craigslist. Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) resigned after complications from revelations of an extramarital affair with a former aide, who happened to be married to another of his former aides.

WASHINGTON - The Army suspended the commander of its main basic training camp Tuesday for alleged adultery, the latest in a string of military officers accused of sexual misconduct. Brig. Gen. Bryan T. Roberts, a 29-year Army veteran, was suspended from his post at Ft. Jackson, S.C., while the military investigates allegations of "adultery and a physical altercation," officials said. Christian Kubik, a spokesman for the Army's Training and Doctrine Command at Ft. Eustis, Va. Roberts, who is married with three children, previously led units in Iraq and in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Belgium's deputy prime minister, Elio di Rupo, faced a parliamentary committee to answer new allegations in an underage sex scandal that has already forced the resignation of one senior politician. The 11-member committee must decide whether the new evidence is sufficient to lift Di Rupo's parliamentary immunity and send him for trial before the Supreme Court.

Could you call it a scandal? It's not exactly clear  who is outraged. But Lynsie Lee, a Portland, Ore., stripper who once exchanged private Twitter messages with Senate candidate Cory Booker of New Jersey, is enjoying the attention while it lasts. “I just had this 'Inside Edition' female say, 'Are you on something? You seem so happy,' ” Lee, 26, told the Los Angeles Times in a phone interview Thursday, after fielding calls from a flock of curious journalists. "They've been waking me up since 3 a.m. " The story is basically this: On Wednesday a BuzzFeed reporter -- perhaps with sextually challenged  New York politico Anthony Weiner on the brain -- posted a story about Lee exchanging private messages with Booker, the bachelor mayor of Newark, N.J. "Not safe for work, unless you work at Newark City Hall," the BuzzFeed reporter gushed, then glued several nude photos of Lee into the very-not-safe-for-work story.

How to unpack the layers of irony when “journalists” at the web TV operation run by San Diego's largest newspaper decided to spoof "Mayor Headlock's" predicament with a remake of Robin Thicke's chart-topping music video “Blurred Lines”? First of all, as you know, San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has been accused by a baker's dozen or so of women of making unwanted sexual advances, including putting some in headlocks, kissing them, coming onto them and generally acting more like a drunken fraternity boy than a 70-year-old career politician.

The Bob Filner sex scandal keeps unfolding, with a ninth woman accusing the San Diego mayor of sexual misconduct . This time, reports The Times' Tony Perry, a Marilyn Monroe lookalike who was hired to sing at a fundraiser for Filner has stepped forward with allegations. “He grabbed me a little too tight, then proceeded to slide his hand down my arm and then did a little grab on my derriere,” Emily Gilbert told Fox5 San Diego . Add that to other accusations that include telling one woman to not wear underwear to work, asking another to forgo her wedding band on a business trip, and the hideous “ Filner headlock .” And if that's not bad enough, Filner is refusing to resign, hoping that a two-week intensive therapy stint to address his treatment of women is enough to clean up this mess.

William H. Ginsburg, a seasoned medical malpractice attorney who bolted to national prominence in the brutal arena of Washington politics as Monica Lewinsky's lawyer, died Monday at his home in Sherman Oaks. He was 70. The cause was cancer, said his daughter-in-law Virginia Ginsburg. In 1998, Ginsburg was a senior partner in a Beverly Hills medical malpractice firm, where he had a sterling track record defending unpopular clients. He represented the physician accused of covering up the cause of entertainer Liberace's death from AIDS and the cardiologist who examined Loyola Marymount University basketball star Hank Gathers just before the young player's sudden death during a game.
