He'd never acted in a feature before, much less played the lead in a big-budget science-fiction extravaganza produced by Peter Jackson. But for Sharlto Copley (SHARL-toe COP-lee), "District 9" was something of a relief. "I've been in the business side for a long time. I've owned companies. I've been a producer, director, writer; I've done quite a lot of stuff," he says. "A lot of it was planning, strategizing, very stressful. Trying to control things that are ultimately out of your control.

Fans of “Oldboy” who are wondering how Spike Lee will tackle the South Korean cult hit won't have to wait very long to find out: Lee's English-language version of the movie will hit theaters in less than a year. FilmDistrict, which is releasing the Josh Brolin-Sharlto Copley revenge drama, announced Friday that it will open the film on Oct 11, 2013. The movie will go wide, settling the question of whether Lee's indie background would prompt a more limited release.  “Oldboy” will go up against a 3-D re-release of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” among other still-to-be-dated films.

Despicable Me Universal, $29.98/$34.98; Blu-ray, $39.98/$49.98 The computer-animated "Despicable Me" follows a supervillain named Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) as he tries to restore his standing in the evildoers' community ? an effort complicated by the arrival of three adorable orphans. The movie's sentimental side is pretty pat, but Gru's various capers are wittily staged, and any scene involving his tiny yellow minions is pure slapstick gold. "Despicable Me" is recommended for parents who want to introduce their kids to actual comedy.
