An Orange County Superior Court jury Friday awarded $250,000 in damages to an Orange County chemistry teacher who alleged that she had been sexually harassed by school administrators. In her lawsuit, Sharon Daly Forslund, 51, of Lake Forest contended that she was sexually harassed in 1985 by the principal and assistant principal at Mission Viejo High School and that they transferred her to another high school when she complained to their supervisors.

The $250,000 verdict awarded last week in a sexual harassment lawsuit brought against Saddleback Valley Unified School District was confusing, and it still may not end the many years of legal wrangling stemming from this case. But at least some things are becoming clear.

A Superior Court judge has overturned a $250,000 jury verdict awarded to a South County high school teacher who alleged that she had been sexually harassed by two school administrators. Judge William F. Rylaarsdam overturned the judgment late Friday after determining that the jury's decision was legally flawed, according to attorney James P. Collins Jr., who represented the administrators and Saddleback Unified School District in the case.

A South County chemistry teacher testified Friday that she was stripped of class assignments and transferred to a different high school because she complained that her principal and assistant principal sexually harassed her. "I used to have great trust in my employer and the system, and I was proud to be a teacher," testified Sharon Daly Forslund on the opening day of the trial in her sexual harassment lawsuit against Saddleback Valley Unified School District.

An Orange County Superior Court jury Friday awarded $250,000 in damages to a South County chemistry teacher who alleged that two school administrators sexually harassed her and then retaliated against her for complaining about their conduct. After deliberating for nearly two days, the jury agreed that an assistant principal at Mission Viejo High School had harassed Sharon Daly Forslund and that she had been retaliated against professionally when she lost her classes and was later transferred.
