Senior forward Jennifer Osur, who averaged 19 points and 5 rebounds a game to lead the Foothill High School girls' basketball team to the Southern Section 3-A championship, was named The Times' Player of the Year Tuesday night. Knight Coach Sheila Adams was named Coach of the Year. Foothill went 25-3 this season and is 196-40 in 10 years under Adams.

Four Orange County high school basketball coaches, including Rich Skelton of Dana Hills, were involved in job changes Thursday. Skelton, who served a one-year suspension for violating a Southern Section rule, will return to his job at Dana Hills. The three others are: --Nash Rivera, who resigned as Santa Ana boys' coach after one season at the school. --Kevin Kiernan, who has been named the boys' coach at Savanna after spending five seasons as girls' coach at La Quinta.

Mary Gainey has been named girls' basketball coach at Foothill High School. Gainey replaces Sheila Adams, who resigned after 15 seasons as the Knights' coach. Adams' teams won 12 league championships and advanced to three Southern Section title games, winning the 3-A championship in 1985. Gainey, of Tustin, played softball and basketball at Mater Dei and recently graduated from Fresno State, where she played basketball for four years.

Sue Davis, who averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds a game, was voted the most valuable player in the Century League by the league's girls' basketball coaches. Foothill's Sheila Adams was voted coach of the year.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving will hold a series of shows at high schools across the county in the next five weeks to convince students that drinking and driving just don't mix. Called "Sober Prom," the dramatic performances and real life videos of the tragic consequences of drunken driving will be shown at 25 high schools. Guest speakers will also be on hand to warn students to use extra caution on prom night.

Jennifer Osur scored a game-high 20 points Tuesday night to lead Foothill High School into the Southern Section 3-A title game against Brea-Olinda as the Knights defeated Palmdale, 54-50, in a semifinal game at Antelope Valley High School. Center Chris McFerson contained Tracy Preeter of Palmdale inside, holding the Falcons' 6-foot 3-inch center to 13 points. In the last two playoff games, Preeter had scored 21 and 23, respectively, on a combined 17 of 21 shooting from the field.

It is not a good sign when one team's field goal percentage begins with .0 and the other team's begins with .1. But that's the way Foothill High School and Santa Ana Valley shot Tuesday night in the first half of Foothill's 35-32 victory in a Century League girls' basketball game. Two teams combined to make 20 of 104 field goal attempts. Santa Ana Valley shot 17.5% (10 of 57) and Foothill managed 21.2% (10-47). "I don't know what (the problem) was. I wish I knew.

Through 66 games, spanning 7 seasons, the Foothill High School girls' basketball team ruled the Century League. But Canyon broke Foothill 66-game league winning streak with a 54-44 victory Tuesday night at Foothill. Foothill's last Century League loss was to Villa Park, 49-39, on Feb. 8, 1983. "Somebody had to stop the streak. I'm glad it was us," Canyon Coach Bill Fitzgibbons said. "Some of the seniors had been handed some tough losses over the years by Foothill."

The Foothill High School girls' basketball team looked strong before the 1984-85 season began. The Knights, who had advanced to the Southern Section 3-A final the previous season, were ranked No. 1 in Orange County. But just four games into the season, Foothill lost to Brea-Olinda in the championship game of the Wildcats' Christmas tournament, 57-53. Brea went on to post a 29-0 record, but Foothill lost twice more in its next six games.

It certainly wasn't vintage Brea-Olinda High School basketball, what with a make-shift lineup used throughout the game and state Division III player of the year Aimee McDaniel on the bench for three quarters. But even off-speed Lady Cat basketball is better than most. It was good enough to defeat Foothill, 51-33, in a Southern Section 3-AA girls' quarterfinal game Thursday night at Foothill.
