Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives are investigating complaints that youths at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Azusa were molested by an adult. Authorities have interviewed more than a dozen altar boys. The allegations were brought to the attention of detectives by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles after it received a tip on its hotline for sexual abuse. Detectives said their investigation led to conversations with alleged victims. But they declined to name the suspect, the number of victims, or which of the clergy and staff had been interviewed, saying only that the suspect is an adult associated with the church.

The investigation into the fatal shooting of a prominent Los Angeles attorney outside his Rolling Hills Estates home took a new twist Wednesday as Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives said they did not find a weapon at the scene. The revelation heightens suspicions over Jeffrey Tidus' death as detectives try to determine whether the litigator was the victim of a homicide or self-inflicted gunshot wound. "We have not located the weapon used, but we haven't ruled it a homicide," said Lt. David Dolson.

Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives are investigating an assault on a 12-year-old middle school boy in Calabasas who may have been targeted after a Facebook group urged students to beat up redheads, a sheriff's official said Saturday. The boy was kicked and hit in two incidents on the campus of A.E. Wright Middle School by as many as 14 of his classmates, Lt. Richard Erickson said. The students who participated in the attack may have been motivated by a Facebook message telling them that Friday was "Kick a Ginger Day," Erickson said.

Sheriff's detectives on Thursday urged the public to help in finding a 65-year-old woman who has been missing from her Lakewood home for more than two months. Louise Ayala was last seen July 6, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Joan Raber. Ayala lived alone and enjoyed traveling, which is why her absence went unnoticed for so long. Detectives found no indication of preparations for travel arrangements, and a check of hospitals and the coroner's office turned up nothing, Raber said.

Lab tests confirmed that a decomposing body had been in the trunk of a car driven by a missing girl's mother, and investigators believe the 3-year-old is dead, the Sheriff's Office in Orlando said. Investigators have called Casey Anthony, 22, a "person of interest" in Caylee Anthony's disappearance. She faces charges of child neglect, obstruction and making false statements in the case. Caylee was reported missing in mid-July, about a month after she was last seen. Casey Anthony told investigators she had dropped the girl off with a baby-sitter and gone to work.
