UC Irvine's Mike Cadigan and Shige Kanroji upset Texas Christian's No. 3-seeded team of Tom Mercer and Neil Broad Thursday, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round of the National Intercollegiate Invitational tennis tournament at Milwaukee. Cadigan and Kanroji also defeated Tom Pheifer and Steve Johnson of Wisconsin Stout on Thursday, 6-1, 6-1.

The UC Irvine doubles team of Mike Cadigan and Shige Kanroji advanced to the semifinal round of the National Intercolligate Invitational tennis tournament at Milwaukee Friday by defeating Mike Johnson and Gary Williams of the University of Mississippi, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5, in a quarterfinal match. Cadigan and Shige meet John Carras and Scott Melville of USC in a semifinal match today.

UC Irvine's doubles team of Mike Briggs and Richard Lubner defeated Tim Leos and Mike Prittard of Tennessee, 6-1, 6-3, Friday to advance to today's second round of the National Collegiate tennis tournament in Palm Springs. Lubner also defeated Vince Van Gelderen of Clemson in the first round of singles play but lost to Alex Nizet of SMU in the second round. Briggs and Shige Kanroji were eliminated in the first round.

UC Irvine's top-seeded doubles team of Trevor Kronemann and Shige Kanroji won their second-round match over Pepperdine's Mark Hansen and Brian Dick, 6-2, 6-2, Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Assn. regional championships at UC Irvine. Irvine's doubles team of Mike Roberts and Aaron Stolpman defeated the University of San Diego's J.R. Edwards and Dan Mattera, 6-2, 6-4.

UC Irvine tennis players Trevor Kronemann and Richard Lubner will play first-round singles matches today in the NCAA Division I individual championships at the Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells. Kronemann, who is ranked 20th in the nation and is a three-time All-American, will play No. 61 Mickey Maule of Southern Illinois. Lubner, ranked 33rd, will face No. 17 Michael Zimmerman of Harvard.

Mark Kaplan of UC Irvine won his 17th consecutive singles match to help UC Irvine defeat Nevada Las Vegas, 7-2, in a Big West Conference men's tennis match Sunday at Irvine. Kaplan defeated Eric Aanes, 6-3, 6-2, to improve to 23-5. Irvine won five of six singles matches to clinch the victory.

Julian Harvey scored on a penalty shot with two minutes left to lift UC Irvine to a 10-9 victory over Pepperdine in a Big West Conference water polo match Sunday at Heritage Park in Irvine. It was the first conference loss for Pepperdine (23-5 overall, 8-1 in conference). Pepperdine is ranked third in the nation. UC Irvine (23-6, 7-2) is ranked second. Tom Warde and Dan Smoot each had three goals for Irvine. In the Intercollegiate Coaches' Assn.
