Indian officials said they have given up hope of finding survivors among the more than 400 Hindu pilgrims missing after an overcrowded ferry capsized in the rain-swollen Ganges River. News reports said 40 bodies were recovered, but officials said the actual death toll may never be known. There are 100 known survivors from the accident.
