Dutch and Belgian tankers collided near the Dutch North Sea coast on Sunday, causing a spill of about 100 tons of heating oil, the Dutch Transport Ministry reported. The Belgian tanker Rapide Vier, apparently unable to steer due to a malfunction, collided with the Dutch tanker Vlaardingen, causing a leak in the heating oil compartments of the Dutch vessel, the ministry said. It said it had sent a vessel to try to clean up the spill at Oosterschelde, near the Dutch-Belgian border.
