Reporting from Ft. Hood, Texas, Washington and Los Angeles -- As authorities continue to search for clues on what prompted the shooting Thursday at Ft. Hood, the death toll rose today to 13 Twenty-eight of the 31 people injured in the attack on the nation's largest military base remain hospitalized. The alleged shooter, an Army psychiatrist who was wounded during the attack, is also hospitalized, unconscious and on a ventilator. President Obama, speaking at the White House Rose Garden, said he had consulted with FBI Director Robert Muller and others about the investigation into the tragedy.

Gang investigators were searching Saturday for two suspects in connection with an attack in Valinda that left an 18-year-old man hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his back and elbow. The victim was shot on the front porch of his home in the 200 block of Shipman Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Friday by "two male Hispanics who fired from a vehicle," said Gerard Velona, watch commander at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Industry station. "The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for injuries, which were not life-threatening," Velona said.

Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man whose body was found at a construction site. The victim, described by police as a man in his 40s, was discovered at dawn Saturday in the 6000 block of Bristol Parkway. In a statement, police referred to the shooting as a crime and said they were probing possible motives. "All I can say is it's an ongoing investigation and we are working all leads," Det. Ryan Thompson said. The man was not identified, pending the notification of relatives.

A man was charged with murder Tuesday in connection with a fatal shooting at a Studio City party, the district attorney's office announced. Gilbert Llewelyn McDonald, 34, of Los Angeles was charged in Van Nuys Superior Court with one count of murder in the death of Felix Le- vern Lang. Prosecutors said the shooting occurred early New Year's Day after a party attended by about 200 people. They said a dispute broke out between McDonald and Lang and allege that McDonald followed Lang out of the party house and shot him three times.

City police were searching Saturday for two suspects in the slaying of a man last week. Salvator Burrescia, 78, of Long Beach was found shot outside a business in the 2300 block of Sepulveda Boulevard about 11 a.m. Friday and was declared dead at a hospital a short time later. A second, unidentified victim was also found at the scene but is expected to recover, according to police. -- Jason Song

Authorities were looking for clues Sunday to solve three unrelated homicides. In South Los Angeles, a man was shot and killed while sitting in his vehicle, police said. The shooting occurred near the intersection of South Broadway and West 58th Street about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, said Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Ana Aguirre. Police believe that at least two men who fled in a green vehicle may be responsible for the shooting. The victim had not been identified. Another man was found dead early Sunday morning in a Garden Grove parking lot, police said.

A Lynwood High School student was injured Wednesday when he was struck by a stray round fired by an alleged gang member at a rival group near the school, sheriff's officials said. One of the people believed to be involved in the shooting was apprehended and other arrests are expected, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Capt. Jim J. Hellmold. The shooting occurred when the alleged gang member pulled out a gun about 3:30 p.m. and fired toward a group of rivals gathered near the school, Hellmold said.

A 26-year-old man is in jail after a road-rage incident Monday in which he allegedly fired four shots at an off-duty San Diego police sergeant driving his own car. The sergeant was driving on Interstate 5 when he changed lanes to avoid a car closing rapidly behind him, police said. Suspecting that the driver might be drunk, the sergeant then sped up to get his license number. The driver fired four shots at the sergeant's car, police said. After being stopped in nearby National City, Lon Chhay was arrested and booked on charges of attempted murder and possession of weapons.

Two men died, and a third was injured Sunday in possibly gang-related shootings that stretched from Echo Park to Highland Park, police said. Police were trying to determine whether a man in a black pickup truck committed all three shootings and whether the incidents were related. The first victim was fatally struck in the 1600 block of Baxter Street in Echo Park at 5:02 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Officer Karen Smith. The second shooting occurred one minute later around the corner in the 2000 block of Echo Park Avenue.

Two men were fatally shot Sunday during a confrontation in an alley that may have been gang-related, police said. The shootings occurred about 2:10 p.m. as two groups of men were fighting near the 2000 block of Del Amo Boulevard. One group opened fire on the other, striking the two victims, said Long Beach Police Officer Jackie Bezart. One man died at the scene, near the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Cherry Avenue. The second man was taken to a hospital, where he died, Bezart said.
