The Denver Post reported that the Denver Nuggets have been sold to a group of Chicago investors for $65 million, but team owner Sidney Shlenker said negotiations are still in progress and no deal had yet been made. "I'm still the owner so far," Shlenker said. "We are in conversation. I expect for something to be announced in the next few days. It's a little premature."

Sidney Shlenker, the flamboyant entrepreneur who once owned the Denver Nuggets and was chief executive of the Houston Astrodome's parent company, has died. He was 66. Shlenker, who suffered a spinal-cord injury in a 1998 highway accident that left him a paraplegic, died of heart failure Wednesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Before his accident, he had created an eclectic corporate profile over four decades.

The $65-million purchase of the Denver Nuggets by two Chicago businessmen has been delayed, according to Denver City Atty. Steve Kaplan. "It's taking longer than expected," Kaplan said Thursday, "but still moving forward. The dates have slipped." Chicago businessmen Peter Bynoe and Bertram Lee were to have closed the deal today, buying the team from Houston businessman Sidney Shlenker. The purchase would make them the first black owners of a major sports franchise.

A California businessman is negotiating to buy the Denver Nuggets, one of a few potential buyers who have expressed interest in the NBA team since investors Peter Bynoe and Bertram Lee failed to meet a purchase deadline this week. Lee and Bynoe still hope to buy the NBA franchise, and Nuggets owner Sidney Shlenker still hopes to sell it to them, said Andy Shlenker, Sidney's son and Nuggets part-owner.

One of Heidi Fleiss' former prostitutes testified Wednesday that actor Charlie Sheen was among the Hollywood madam's clients. Judy Geller, a USC graduate and daughter of a San Francisco attorney, testified at Fleiss' federal tax evasion and money-laundering trial that Fleiss made about $60,000 a month in 1992, taking a 40% cut of what her 20 prostitutes brought in.
