Silver Lake may be a straight shot east from the design district of Beverly Boulevard, but what a difference a ZIP Code makes. With new arrivals joining expanded businesses near Effie Street, Silver Lake Boulevard has become an upscale detour for Sunset Boulevard thrift shoppers and a destination for trend-setting decorators. The shops maintain schedules that are as relaxed as the atmosphere, so call ahead.

Inspired by the stackable midcentury planters of Estelle and Erwine Laverne, Silver Lake designers Glenn Lawson and Grant Fenning have created a lightweight metal side table and stool that does double duty inside or out. With a dash of French deco flair, the piece ($325 as shown here) has a top and base made from ivory-colored steel set on an unfinished copper pedestal. Custom colors are available. Lawson-Fenning, 7257 Beverly Blvd., L.A., (323) 934-0048, and 1618 Silver Lake Blvd., L.A.

For three decades, Lindberg served as artistic director of Gustavsberg, arguably Sweden's most prestigious producer of tableware. Now, two of his textile patterns, "Garden of Eden," shown here, and "Pottery" have been reissued as table runners and pillow covers by Design House Stockholm.

Noise-rock in L.A. is having quite a star turn lately with the ascent of local heroes No Age, but hopefully there's still room on the bandwagon for the local duo Hecuba, whose brand of avant-garde is more tribal and immersive than spazzy and abrasive.
