Using a cutting-edge sonar gun, divers continued their search Monday through the thick silt of the Laguna Lakes for a New Jersey woman who was tracked to the water's edge by search dogs after disappearing a week ago. For the third consecutive day, divers unsuccessfully searched the muddy depths of Orange County's largest natural lake for some sign of Silvia Molina, a 28-year-old Somerset resident who vanished last Tuesday afternoon after leaving a relative's Laguna Beach home for a walk.

Stymied by thick silt, divers on Tuesday gave up their four-day search for a New Jersey student believed to have drowned in one of the Laguna Lakes. With help from trained dogs, 16 divers spent the day probing the murky waters with high-tech scanning devices but did not find 28-year-old Silvia Molina, who vanished eight days ago. "We're wiped out," Laguna Beach Police Lt. Danell Adams said as he stood on the banks of one of the lakes. "We're back to square one."

Skeletal remains discovered last month have been identified as those of a 28-year-old New Jersey woman who disappeared in Laguna Beach a year ago, police said Tuesday. No foul play is suspected in the death of Silvia Molina, whose remains were discovered Jan. 22 by a landscaper working in a riverbed off El Toro Road, within a mile of the home where Molina was staying with relatives, police said. The cause of death was not released at the request of Molina's family.
