Authorities in North Texas are investigating how an adult woman apparently fell to her death while riding a roller coaster at a Six Flags amusement park Friday evening.  The accident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. at the Six Flags Over Texas park in Arlington. The ride, the Texas Giant roller coaster , remained closed Saturday morning, “We are working closely with authorities to determine the cause of the accident,” Sharon Parker, a park spokeswoman, said in a statement.

Dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, who had two sellout shows booked here, has canceled his summer tour due to injury, officials said today. Baryshnikov was to open his summer tour July 1 at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. Bruce Neal, promotions director for the amusement park, said he received a telegram Tuesday from the dancer's tour manager, saying Baryshnikov had aggravated a knee injury and will undergo surgery.

Iwerks Entertainment Inc., a Burbank supplier of special-format movie theaters and virtual reality attractions, said it has signed agreements for six U.S.-based projects valued at $5.3 million. The projects include a 100-seat simulation theater for Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Tex.; three projection systems for the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and two simulation theaters for Entertainment Concepts Inc. to be installed in Orlando, Fla., and Branson, Mo.

Rachel Coleman Duell, 100, co-founder of a firm that specialized in designing theme parks, including Magic Mountain in Valencia, died June 3 in her Los Angeles home. A native of Chappel, Neb., she moved to Long Beach in her teens and attended USC. There she met her husband, the late MGM art director and architect Randall Duell. In the 1950s, the couple founded R. Duell and Associates (later Duell Enterprises) with Randall as architect and Rachel as business manager.

An Amtrak passenger train carrying 199 people derailed Sunday night, slightly injuring 13 passengers. Eight passenger cars and one baggage car of the westbound train left the tracks shortly after 7 p.m., said Arlington Fire Lt. Pat English. He said the injured were treated at hospitals. "It's generalized mostly as neck and back pain," English said. "Nothing life-threatening, it appears, at this time. So we're really thankful it wasn't worse."

NEW YORK -- A 5-year-old boy was recovering from a broken leg Thursday after he became frightened while riding a kiddie roller coaster at Coney Island, wriggled his way out of the car he was in, and fell. Witnesses said the little boy, whose name was not released, became wedged between the track and the cars of the Sea Serpent ride. Deno's Wonder Wheel, which operates some of the rides on the boardwalk at Coney Island, said the bright green Sea Serpent -- a ride designed for young children -- had never had an accident in its 15 years in operation.

The $26-million OzIris roller coaster at Parc Asterix will dive underwater in front of a sorcerer's temple as part of the French theme park's new Egyptian-themed land.
