TEMPE, Ariz.  - No one in camp is comparing Kevin Jepsen to sidearm-throwing Joe Smith , but there is a noticeable difference in the delivery of the Angels reliever, who has gone from a straight over-the-top motion to a three-quarter-arm slot. "This off-season I thought, 'As a kid, you pick up a rock and throw it, you're going to throw your natural way,' and my natural way is down here," Jepsen said, mimicking his new motion. "Since I had shoulder surgery in 2004, I've been trying to find something that didn't hurt.

Talk station KABC-AM (790) is turning to a former Republican congressman rather than a former Republican senator to fill the spot being vacated by conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly. O'Reilly announced last year that he was giving up his nationally syndicated weekday radio show in the first quarter of 2009, and Westwood One, his distributor, said it had lined up former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) to take over. But KABC has decided instead to pick up the 2-month-old "The Joe Scarborough Show," featuring the former Florida congressman and current host of "Morning Joe" on MSNBC.

For a struggling network that has lost its top ranking, major league football and a president in the last year, a little divine intervention would have seemed in order. So it should have been good news after third-place CBS received ratings from heaven during the past two weeks from an unexpected source--the comedy-drama "Touched by an Angel," which has been on and off the air in different time periods since its debut last fall. Many had already written it off as being dead in the water.

OAKLAND - Amir Soltani moved into his brother's townhouse eight years ago in a new West Oakland development touting itself as a bridge between "industrial and residential neighborhoods. " He had fled Iran as a child for a life of relative privilege in Britain and the U.S., where he attended elite colleges. Yet Soltani understood displacement and the outsider's lack of belonging. All too often, wood furniture that has aged and been exposed to the rigors of family life will begin to show some signs of wear and tear. The glue dries out, the wood shrinks, the various pieces move against each other, and a loose joint is often the result. Left unattended, the joint will worsen until it fails completely, with unpleasant results for both the piece of furniture and for anyone using it at the time. The repair begins with an examination of the original joint used.

The most sinister video you're likely to find online just now comes from people who oppose online gambling. "Disreputable gaming interests are lobbying hard to spread Internet gambling throughout the country," a voice over intones. Cue the grainy black-and-white footage of something sketchy going on in an alleyway, the ominous music and allusions to criminal "syndicates" and terrorism. The narrator warns that "an established Al Qaeda poker network could extract enough untraceable money from the United States in just a few days to fund several 9/11-sized attacks.

Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airlines will soon increase service to and from Washington's Reagan National Airport, thanks to the results of an antitrust lawsuit. To settle an antitrust suit and allow the merger of American Airlines and US Airways, the U.S. Justice Department required the two merging airlines to give up a combined 104 landing slots at the airport, plus several at New York's LaGuardia Airport. The Justice Department made it clear that the airlines must sell the slots to low-cost carriers to ensure strong competition and low prices.

The merger of American Airlines and US Airways is paying off for Southwest Airlines. To settle an antitrust lawsuit by the U.S. Department of Justice, American and US Airways agreed to give up dozens of landing and takeoff slots to ensure strong competition. At New York's LaGuardia Airport, Southwest Airlines is taking over a total of 22 takeoff and landing spots given up by American Airlines, the carrier announced Thursday. "This is terrific news for low-fare customers who want greater access to New York City," said Bob Jordan, Southwest's executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

Well, it looks like “Revenge” isn't so sweet after all. ABC announced its upcoming midseason premiere dates for new and returning shows - and from the looks of it, its taste for “Revenge” has soured a bit. Beginning March 9, the sudsy drama will vacate its 9 p.m. slot on Sundays and head over to 10 p.m. The move comes as the third-season drama, once a solid performer for the network, has experienced dips in its ratings. The shift opens the plum 9 p.m. Sunday slot for freshman drama “Resurrection,” which had been slated for the 10 p.m. period.

"The Simpsons" has returned to Venezuelan television -- shifting to a nighttime slot after regulators ordered it off the air in the morning. Elba Guillen, a spokeswoman for the station Televen, said Thursday that the animated Fox series returned to the air at 7 p.m. Wednesday and will be shown at that time each week. The channel yanked the animated series this month after the National Telecommunications Commission said showing it each day at 11 a.m. -- a time slot approved for all viewers -- violated regulations to protect children.

A majority of us seniors love both shows--"The Colbys" for its glamour and how-the-other-half-lives aspect, and "Knots Landing" for its excellent plot, splendid acting and believable characters. We do not go for the shoot-'em-up crime, talk and strident music shows. How about switching "Knots Landing" back to its 10 p.m. time slot on Thursdays and putting "Kay O'Brien" (ho hum!
