SMTEK Inc., a Chatsworth company that provides mechanical and electronic engineering services and robotic assembly, said it won a contract from Martin Marietta Corp. worth nearly $7 million. The contract calls for SMTEK to provide engineering, design, thermal and structural analysis, assembly and test services for electronic assemblies related to the Flight Telerobotic Servicer (FTS) program.

DDL Electronics announced it has successfully refinanced its short-term debt to provide working capital for a company it acquired earlier this year. The refinancing, accomplished through three deals totaling about $10 million, replaces $7 million of short-term debt incurred in connection with the acquisition of SMTEK Inc. on Jan. 12. After financing costs and interest reserves, the funds provide more than $2 million of working capital for SMTEK.

DDL Electronics Inc. has repaid its 10% Senior Secured Notes due July 1 in the aggregate amount of $5.3 million, the Newbury Park company said. A portion of the notes were paid off with $2 million borrowed from a private investor under a 8% promissory note that is convertible into DDL common stock at 75 cents per share. The convertible note matures Aug. 31, 1998, and is secured by a pledge of all of the outstanding shares of SMTEK Inc., DDL's U.S. operating subsidiary.

DDL Electronics in Newbury Park says it has successfully refinanced $5.3 million in corporate debt by securing a loan from a private investor. The company has repaid in full $5.3 million of secured notes that were due July 1. To raise a portion of the funds needed to pay off the 10% notes, DDL borrowed $2 million from a private investor on June 30 under an 8% promissory note, which is convertible into DDL common stock at 75 cents per share. DDL Electronics in Newbury Park announced that revenues for its third quarter ended March 31 were $13.58 million, compared with $10.50 million for the third quarter last year. Net income for the quarter was $134,000 or 1 cent per share. In last year's third quarter, DDL had net income of $1.95 million or 10 cents a share, but that was due mainly to the extinguishment of a major debt involving deferred compensation for former company managers and directors.

SMTEK International Inc. in Thousand Oaks, a provider of electronics manufacturing services, said revenues for its fiscal first quarter that ended Sept. 30 grew 38% to $20.9 million, from $15.2 million a year earlier. Net income for the three months was $315,000 or 14 cents per share, compared with $135,000 or 6 cents per share in the first quarter of last year.
