The Camarillo High softball team had its season abruptly ended Thursday, just hours before the Scorpions were to face Mater Dei in the Division I quarterfinals. Camarillo Principal Terry Tackett called the Southern Section office on Thursday morning and forfeited Tuesday's 3-0 second-round victory over San Marcos after learning that a Scorpion player had an illegal practice with Coach Darwin Tolzin on Sunday. "We did what we thought was right," Tackett said, explaining the forfeit.

Darwin Tolzin, whose illegal Sunday practice cost the Camarillo High softball team a playoff victory last week, has been told he will not coach the Scorpions next season. On Friday, a day after the Scorpions celebrated their Marmonte League championship at the team's annual awards banquet, Tolzin gathered the players and told them he had been fired. "Everyone was pretty much in shock," said junior Jessica Ziese. "We were wondering why. A lot of the girls were really hurt."
