Six people were honored Tuesday by the Orange County Board of Supervisors as Entrepreneurs of the Year. Awards went to Sherri L. Medina of South Coast Rehabilitation Services in Aliso Viejo; Mike Sweeney, Jim Sweeney and Duane Stark of Tectrix Fitness Equipment in Irvine;( Steve Furniss, founder of Tyr Sport Inc. in Huntington Beach, and Michael Brinda, founder of New Horizons Computer Learning Center in Santa Ana.

Regency Health Services Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 21 hospitals, clinics and treatment centers from Horizon/CMS Healthcare Corp. for $36.3 million in cash and notes. Regency Health Services, Inc., a post-acute health care provider, offers subacute care, skilled nursing and other specialized long-term care services through 109 in-patient facilities with 11,389 licensed beds in California, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Regency Health Services Inc., which operates health care facilities, reported third quarter net income of $4 million, or 22 cents a share. For the same period last year, the company had net income of $561,000, or 3 cents a share, including a charge of $3.5 million related to merger and restructuring expenses. Revenue increased 15% to $107.5 million from $93.4 million. For the nine-month period, net income was $8.

Owners of a nursing home and two rehabilitation services have come to the rescue of Roberto Sanchez Morales, the 24-year-old Mexican national who requires intensive therapy after a car crash in August. Morales was transferred on Friday from Tustin Hospital Medical Center to Park Tustin Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Santa Ana owned by Regency Health Services, a Newport Beach-based chain of nursing and rehabilitation homes.
