In the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "South Pacific," the lovely and mysterious island of Bali H'ai beckons from across the misty ocean. "If you try, you'll find her," croons Bloody Mary, "where the sky meets the sea." You never have to try too hard to find Bali H'ai in Orange County, though. This season alone, from where the 55 freeway meets the 5 to right off Imperial Highway, productions of "South Pacific" are running in Tustin and Brea, practically next to each other.

"South Pacific" may be one of the most popular Broadway musicals ever -- with a Rodgers and Hammerstein score that includes "Some Enchanted Evening," "There Is Nothin' Like a Dame," "Bali Ha'i" and "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair." But it's never had a Broadway revival. Now Lincoln Center Theater is bringing back the 1949 classic, with Kelli O'Hara as Nellie Forbush and opera baritone Paulo Szot as Emile de Becque.

NEW YORK -- Sadly, everything old can't be new again. But the past can certainly be elegantly reintroduced, as it has been with 's production of "South Pacific," the first bona fide Broadway revival since Rodgers and Hammerstein's insanely hummable musical premiered in 1949.
