Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat processor, said Monday that its first-quarter profit fell 19% on weaker operating results in its pork and beef businesses, and projected fiscal 2006 earnings below Wall Street expectations. The Springdale, Ark.-based company's shares fell $1.10, or 7.2%, to $13.85, after being down almost 11% earlier in the day. Earnings declined to $39 million, or 11 cents a share, from $48 million, or 14 cents, a year earlier.

* Specialty Brands Inc. signed a 15-year, $17-million lease for 50,000 square feet of space in Empire Towers III, a 75,000-square-foot office building to begin construction this summer at 4200 Concours Drive in Ontario. Walt Chenoweth, Randy Kuttler and Bill Welch of CB Richard Ellis represented the tenant. The landlord, Lord Baltimore Properties, was represented in-house by Mark Jacobs. * Rose Diplomat bought a 120-unit apartment complex at 10751 Rose Ave. in West Los Angeles for $5.

Savvy restaurant operators know that when it comes to food trends, there's rarely anything new under the sun. That's definitely the case with wraps, the trendy, burrito-like fare now popping up on restaurant menus around the country. Many diners may be seeing the sandwich-like wraps for the first time. But flat-bread items--stuffed with everything from vegetables and pork to chicken and cheese--date to the earliest of times.
