Santa Margarita graduate Spencer Gloger, who signed a grant-in-aid in May to play basketball at UCLA, has changed his mind and will enroll at Princeton. Gloger, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard/forward, averaged 23.7 points and 6.0 rebounds for the Eagles last season. He was a Times All-Orange County selection. A grant-in-aid, unlike a letter of intent, does not bind the athlete to attend the school where he signed.

It was not one of the better played games in the history of the Costa Mesa Kiwanis Orange County All-Star Basketball Game. Spencer Gloger of Santa Margarita, the 34th annual game's most valuable player, said he knows why. "We had no structured offense," Gloger said. "It was just everyone taking shots all the time, just like playground ball."

The road in the Sea View League can be treacherous, perhaps more so than in any other league in the county. So no one could blame the Newport Harbor boys' basketball team for being relieved to leave the Santa Margarita gymnasium for perhaps the final time Wednesday night. The fourth-ranked Sailors, who held a four-point lead with five minutes to play, lost to the third-ranked Eagles by committing three turnovers and a costly foul down the stretch.
