Biomedical Firm to Develop Muscle Fatigue Test: Biomerica Inc. said it has signed a contract with a Japanese clinical laboratory, SRL Inc., to develop diagnostic tests to assess muscular fatigue and weakness. SRL will fund development and own distribution rights to the technology in Japan, with Newport Beach-based Biomerica retaining marketing rights elsewhere. The test will measure enzymes in the blood that indicate muscle damage, said Biomerica president Joseph Irani.

Continuing its acquisition binge, Applied Circuit Technology Inc. on Wednesday signed an agreement in principle to buy SRL Inc. of Anaheim for an undisclosed amount of cash and stock. Walter R. Menetry, Applied president, said the acquisition will give his electronics firm an entry into the semiconductor test market.

Enjoying a surge of new orders and the fruits of its cost-cutting efforts, Applied Circuit Technology Inc. on Tuesday announced record revenues for its fiscal second quarter and its first quarterly profit in a year. For the quarter ended April 30, the Anaheim company, which makes testing equipment for computer parts, reported net income of $62,821, in contrast with a loss of $228,102 the prior year. Revenues were ahead 90% to $5.1 million from $2.6 million reported a yearago.
