Police discovered the body of a 35-year-old Santa Ana woman Thursday after a friend had gone to the victim's apartment to find out why she had not shown up for work. Carla Leigh Salazar died from numerous stab wounds sometime Wednesday or early Thursday, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Dick Faust said. Her body was found about 11:30 a.m. Thursday by a friend and the manager of the apartment complex where she lived. The victim's friend reportedly became concerned when she failed to show up for work, Faust said, adding that as yet there are no suspects or motives.

A 32-year-old man died Thursday after an early morning attack in his apartment, a police spokesman said. Adan Reveles-Caldara suffered multiple stab wounds in a 12:30 a.m. attack at his apartment in the 1000 block of East 7th Street. He died at a local hospital, said Long Beach Police Sgt. Steve Filippini. There have been no arrests, and investigators were unsure of a motive for the attack but suspect it was robbery, Filippini said.

A woman whose dismembered corpse was found sealed in plastic bags died of head injuries and multiple stab wounds to her chest, the county coroner said Monday. Coroner Brian McCormick said preliminary findings in an autopsy show that Mary Ann Evans, 40, died of a beating and stabbing at least two days before her body was found Thursday. After Ms. Evans died, her body was cut up and wrapped in plastic bags that were placed in a freezer.

An 11-year-old boy allegedly stabbed by his 15-year-old stepbrother during an attack that also left their mother critically wounded died Wednesday, and police stepped up their search for the teen-ager. The youngster, whose name was withheld, died at 8:12 a.m. at UCLA Medical Center, said Detective Richard Hoffman of the Los Angeles Police Department's South Bureau Homicide Section.

The teen-age youth knocked on the door, then introduced himself and asked for a glass of water and use of a telephone. Edith Rose didn't know the boy personally, but she had seen him around her Reseda neighborhood. According to police, once the youth was inside her home, he demanded money and when the 74-year-old widow refused, he attacked. First he punched her repeatedly, then he grabbed a butcher knife and chased her through the house, stabbing her 20 times, authorities said.

A man whose charred body was found in his burned apartment in Sunset Beach on Monday had been stabbed repeatedly, authorities said Tuesday. The body was burned beyond recognition, and authorities were awaiting dental records to determine his identity, Sheriff's Lt. Robert Rivas said. An autopsy report showed the man died from multiple stab wounds to the torso, not as a result of the fire, Rivas said. "We are handling the case as a homicide now," Rivas said. Sheriff's deputies shot a gun-toting man several times Friday night, critically wounding him, authorities said. Thomas Elliott, 33, of Spring Valley, suffered gunshot wounds to the head and torso after he allegedly stabbed a man and later pointed a semiautomatic pistol at two sheriff's deputies, said Lt. An 11-year-old boy died after he was stabbed multiple times during an apparent family dispute Monday morning in the Westlake community west of downtown Los Angeles, police said. The boy's 26-year-old stepfather, who also sustained stab wounds, was being held under guard at County/USC Medical Center as a "person of interest," police said. Neighbors said they heard a disturbance shortly before 9 a.m. in a second-floor apartment in the 200 block of South Carondelet Street. "We heard screaming, and my sister said, 'Oh, they are fighting,' " said Maria Rodriguez, who lives in the building next door.

Three women -- two of them dead -- were found with stab wounds Wednesday at a vacant house in Sun Valley, authorities said. The victims were discovered at 11:40 a.m. when a neighbor spotted one of the bodies at the house in the 7800 block of Irvine Avenue and called police, said Officer Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department. One of the women was unconscious but still breathing, Baek said. She was taken to a hospital with multiple stab wounds to her upper body and scratches on her wrists.
