I am not surprised that Stanley Sheinbaum, a board member of the ACLU and supporter of "progressive Jewish organizations," would come to Stockholm to embrace Arafat, the chieftain of the Arab terrorists. Jacobo Timmerman, an ingrate who was once saved by the state of Israel from the Argentine junta, and who has since called Israel "a fascist state," did not need to plead with Sheinbaum to get Americans to bring pressure on Israel. Apparently, Stanley Sheinbaum was quite willing to do so himself.

Sheinbaum warns that if Israel doesn't meet the PLO's demands, the attacks will become more violent. But what will happen if Israel does give away the land? The radical elements within the PLO--allegedly not under Arafat's sphere of influence--have given no indication that they will curtail terrorism in any way until the central platform of the PLO's charter is realized: namely, the dismantling and destruction of Israel. Sheinbaum's smear that Shamir is "gleeful" about the prospect of continued violence is beneath contempt.

Let the witch hunt begin! In its attempt to lay blame for the violation of Rodney King's civil rights by members of the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Police Commission has decided to violate the intellectual rights of Vernon by embracing the tactics of Joe McCarthy. Police Commission member Stanley Sheinbaum's query into comments made 14 years ago by Vernon to his church reveals a glaring intolerance by Sheinbaum of alternative ways of thinking. The problem, according to Sheinbaum, is not that the assistant chief has done anything wrong, but rather that he may believe in the wrong things.

Police were trying to learn Tuesday who left a skinned pig carcass outside the home of Stanley Sheinbaum, the publisher and activist who, with four other American Jews, recently met in Sweden with Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Yasser Arafat. Sheinbaum and his wife, Betty, told West Los Angeles police detectives that the dead animal was left in their driveway between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on New Year's Day while they were away.

Police Commissioners Stanley K. Sheinbaum and Jesse A. Brewer, two of outgoing Police Chief Daryl F. Gates' harshest critics, departed from the usual verbal warfare Tuesday at the last commission meeting before Gates retires and commended him for his years of service and department loyalty. Brewer, a retired assistant police chief, cited Gates' innovations and creativity.
