Mickey Rooney's stepson was ordered Thursday to turn over all of the 90-year-old actor's identification cards ? including his passport, state ID card, various insurance cards and his Screen Actor's Guild membership ? and to continue to abide by a temporary restraining order that a Los Angeles Superior Court judge issued 10 days ago. Rooney has alleged in court papers that his stepson, Christopher Aber, 52, of Westlake Village and Aber's wife, Christina Aber, 42, have been physically and emotionally abusing him for several years by depriving him of food and medications, prohibiting him from leaving his house and taking control over his finances.

Fratianne told Ausencio V. Torres, 30, that he wished he could have given him more than the maximum sentence allowed for the two counts of child molestation. Like countless misunderstood mistresses, the title character of "The Other Woman" didn't set out to wreck an already busted home. Nor did she shy away from her love for a married man. Now, on the other side of the looking glass, she's ostracized by elementary-school mothers for being a "second wife" and for not conforming to the new-millennial, uptown Manhattan ideal of child-rearing. She's also grappling with capital-G grief over the death of a newborn, trying to forge a bond with her precocious stepson and struggling to save her marriage.

There are likely numerous reasons for the creation of "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son," a film so drained of entertainment or simple humanity it is difficult to relate to as anything other than industrial artifact. First and foremost, the two previous installments in the comedy series ? featuring Martin Lawrence as an FBI agent who finds himself in situations that demand he wear a latex fat suit with a highly detailed facial prosthetic to imitate an elderly woman ? combined made hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide.

I'm writing to thank you for "Return to Reality" by Leslie Earnest (Oct. 18). Having a stepson and nephew whom I help with their mental illnesses, I can say the piece is accurate, caring, realistic, hopeful and a great public service. It will undoubtedly educate many about the victims we see on the street and encourage more of us to help where we can. KITTY SARKISSIAN Woodland Hills

"I am so sorry you are going through this," she tells the man who used to write her long love letters before he disappeared into dementia. "I wish there was something I could do about it." Karl Bernstein, 76, doesn't respond.
