Steve Bolton has resigned as football coach at Los Amigos High School and has been replaced by Roger Takahashi, Athletic Director Dave Auxier said Tuesday. Bolton coached the Lobos the last three seasons and had a record of 16-15-2. After a winless first season, he led Los Amigos to the playoffs the last two seasons. He resigned because of personal reasons. Takahashi has been an assistant for the Lobos the last two seasons. He was the head coach at La Quinta and had a record of 40-27.

OUTLOOK Under new Coach Steve Bolton, a former assistant at Rancho Alamitos, the Lobos will try to improve on their last-place tie with Kennedy last season. But Bolton already has his work cut out for him. Los Amigos features only one returning offensive lineman in Hwang, the 220-pound classification powerlifting champion among Garden Grove League football players last spring. Bolton also said the secondary and linebacker corps are weak.

Los Amigos scored three consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away from Bolsa Grande and post a 43-7 Garden Grove League victory at Bolsa Grande. The Lobos (7-1, 4-1) improved their playoff chances behind quarterback Ape Tuato and running back Noah Tagatauli. Tuato twice took advantage of an overly aggressive Bolsa Grande defense for touchdown runs of 21 and 25 yards. The junior called identical bootleg runs and went untouched into the end zone.

Los Amigos scored 21 points in the third quarter and coasted to a 41-14 victory over host La Quinta in a Garden Grove League game Thursday night at Bolsa Grande High. The Lobos rushed for 351 yards and were equally impressive defensively, sacking La Quinta quarterback Jason Gondringer six times and intercepting two of his passes. Midway through the third quarter, Los Amigos Coach Steve Bolton called in reserves, who accounted for 228 yards rushing in the second half.

Roger Takahashi, who resigned as football coach at La Quinta after last season, said Tuesday he will be the offensive coordinator at Los Amigos next season. Takahashi said a cutback in teaching positions at La Quinta prompted the move. His was one of five positions eliminated at the school. Takahashi said he will teach health education, physical education and driver's education at Los Amigos, the same courses he now teaches at La Quinta.

La Quinta High School wrapped up its first Garden Grove League football championship since 1985 and an undefeated regular season with a 30-0 victory over Los Amigos Friday night at Garden Grove High School. The loss ended the 16-year varsity coaching career of Art Michalik, who is retiring with a 81-72-3 record compiled at La Quinta, Pacifica and Los Amigos. Michalik was 30-43-2 in seven seasons at Los Amigos and guided the Lobos into the CIF playoffs in 1984, '85, '86 and '88.

Keuni Faamausili scored two first-half touchdowns and Los Amigos went on to beat Garden Grove, 27-3, Thursday night in a Garden Grove League game. Faamausili, who gained only 16 yards in eight carries for the Lobos, scored in the second quarter on runs of three and two yards. Garden Grove (2-7, 2-4) appeared up to the Lobos' challenge early, marching 43 yards in eight plays on its first possession, to set up a 32-yard field goal by senior Mark Hastings.
