Steve Carr, director of the new Eddie Murphy comedy, "Dr. Dolittle 2," has designed album covers and artwork for several Def Jam hip-hop recording artists and directed music videos for performers such as Public Enemy, Slick Rick and Jay-Z. The MTV Video Award winner made the jump to feature films with the 1999 hip-hop comedy "Next Friday," starring rapper Ice Cube. Considering his background, it's a bit of a surprise to meet Carr in person--a fact Carr readily acknowledges.

Eddie Murphy just may be the anti-W.C. Fields. The comic actor with the wicked grin and a penchant for raunch failed to heed Fields' famous advice about avoiding kids and animals, and has thrived among them in blockbusters such as "Doctor Dolittle," "The Nutty Professor" and their sequels. In dire need of a hit after a string of bombs (anyone remember "Showtime"?), Murphy teams up again with "Doctor Dolittle" director Steve Carr and surrounds himself here with tykes aplenty.

After 13 years, Moorpark school board members are considering raising the price of student lunches. Board members tonight will vote on whether to increase the elementary school lunch price from $1.50 to $1.75 and middle and high school lunches from $2 to $2.50. The new prices would be comparable to the price of lunch in schools in Simi Valley and Conejo Valley. "If they haven't raised the price in 13 years, then it was inevitable," said Steve Carr, a Moorpark High School parent.
