Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas put in less than a day's work and the Buffalo Bills still had no problem putting away the New York Jets. Kelly stuck around long enough to throw three touchdown passes, and Steve Tasker had six catches for 160 yards and two scores to lead the Bills to a 35-10 victory Sunday for their fourth consecutive win. With Kelly and Thomas sidelined with first-half injuries, Tasker put together the best performance of his career before he left the game with an injury.

Brett Favre, hit hard on his first pass, bounced back to throw two touchdown passes as the Green Bay Packers defeated the Buffalo Bills, 31-21, Saturday at Lambeau Field. In a regular-season finale that had no bearing on the playoff picture, the Packers (13-3) kept their momentum going--despite a clumsy second half by their subs. The game marked the retirement of Buffalo's special teams star Steve Tasker after a 13-year career that included seven Pro Bowls and four Super Bowls.

Steve Tasker, special teams star for the Buffalo Bills, will retire after the season, leaving behind a 13-year career that includes four Super Bowls and seven Pro Bowls. Tasker made the announcement Saturday, a day before the Bills were to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in their next-to-last game of the regular season. He is one of five Buffalo players remaining from all four Super Bowl teams. "It's been one long list of gifts," said Tasker, who is planning a career in broadcasting.

After making the Pro Bowl as the AFC's top special teams player in 1987, wide receiver Steve Tasker of the Buffalo Bills may be doomed to being a special teams specialist. "When the Bills picked me up off the waiver wire from Houston in 1986 they said, 'Listen, we're having some problems on our special teams, can you help us out?' And they liked what they saw," Tasker said.

After what has become an annual embarrassment by its Super Bowl teams, the AFC will try to close the season today with a Pro Bowl victory over the NFC in Honolulu. The NFC has a 13-9 lead in the Pro Bowl and has won three of the last four games. "Of course, you would rather win the Super Bowl, but if you don't, you at least want to win this one," said Buffalo's Steve Tasker, a special teams player for the AFC.

The Raider punting team has been inconsistent this season, giving up two blocked punts. Buffalo wide receiver Steve Tasker blocked Jeff Gossett's punt, which led to a touchdown, as the Bills came from behind and beat the Raiders, 38-24, last month at Orchard Park, N.Y. And the Kansas City Chiefs blocked a punt, which led to a field goal, in a 9-7 victory over the Raiders last Sunday at Kansas City. "It was just a matter of a guy missing an assignment last week," Coach Art Shell said.

As the New England Patriots head for the playoffs, speculation grows about where--if anywhere--Coach Bill Parcells might be headed when his contract expires after this season. But Parcells' public posture hasn't changed since the season began. Neither has that of owner Robert Kraft. "I can just answer that for the 7,637th time," Kraft said Thursday when asked about the matter. "We said once the season's over, we'll sit down and talk and see what's in our mutual best interest."

There were 37 individual or team Super Bowl records either set or tied Sunday. We're sure you know about the record for the longest field goal: Buffalo's Steve Christie kicked a 54-yarder. Tying the record for most Super Bowls won: the Cowboys, with four. But bet you didn't know that the teams also tied a record for fewest punt returns with two. They also tied a record for fewest touchdown passes from both teams, with zero.

Special teams player Elvis Patterson and punter Jeff Gossett know they had Pro Bowl seasons, but they won't know whether their peers agreed until AFC and NFC squads are announced today. Patterson is seeking the position designated for the conference's top special teams player. His chief competition is thought to be Buffalo's Steve Tasker. Gossett leads the NFL in net punting average. Miami's Reggie Roby is the only other possible choice in the AFC.
