These are happy days for the fun side of Chevrolet, as 2013 has been a very good year for the performance division of General Motors' everyman brand. The all-new, seventh-generation Corvette went on sale in August to critical and consumer acclaim. The topless version of the C7 started shipping to customers this week, and a fire-breathing Z06 model will debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Through November, sales of the Corvette are up 228 percent over the same period in 2012.

Chevrolet is honking its own horn hard for the rollout of its new Corvette Z06 convertible, calling it the most powerful drop-top the company has ever produced. Boasting 625 horsepower and 635 pound-feet or torque, the Z06 is built on a brand new all-aluminum frame that the company says lowers the weight, increases stability and for the first time makes race-track performance possible in a convertible. Extolling the vehicle as "a race car that's street legal" married to "a private jet for the road," the company's Corvette product manager, Harlan Charles, said the 2015 model is also the first Z06 offering an automatic transmission -- an eight-speed paddle-shift version -- as well as the traditional seven-speed manual one. PHOTOS: Chevy's Corvette Z06 convertible Chevy isn't releasing official speed or fuel-consumption data, but Charles said the Z06 will make zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds or less, while still matching the 2014 Stingray's reported 29 mpg. It also features the company's active fuel-management system, which automatically turns the V-8 engine into a V-4 when minimal power is needed, increasing fuel economy, as well as a variety of aerodynamic elements that increase downforce, which will be useful on track days.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray will have an Eco mode that delivers 30 miles per gallon, just in case it gets stolen by a band of rogues from the Sierra Club. Officially, the next-generation 'Vette will carry an Environmental Protection Agency rating of just 29 mpg on the highway and 17 in the city. That's because the car gets only 28 mpg on the highway once you switch it back to Real Corvette mode. Photos: Seven generations of Corvettes Chevrolet boasts that the Stingray will be “the most efficient sports car on the market.” It also signals how automakers, responding to shifting driver sentiment, are emphasizing economical and environmental benefits of their vehicles - even America's Sports Car. Not that the 455-horsepower Corvette won't get on down the road.

The entertainment industry, like every other business sector, has been girding for tax reform for nearly a year. Deals have been timed to take advantage of the anticipated changes in the tax code, and prominent actors such as Charlton Heston lobbied successfully for tax breaks for struggling actors. But the most sweeping changes may show up on the television screen.

It's a Black Friday sale you don't have to wait in line for. Chevrolet announced this week it will be building a limited run of its all-new Corvette Stingray convertible to commence the car's production. Dubbed the Premiere Edition Convertible, the car follows in the footsteps of the Premiere Edition Coupe that was announced in June. The convertible comes loaded with everything Chevy can stuff in it: performance exhaust system, electronic limited-slip differential, adjustable magnetic ride suspension and suede interior.

With the ink barely dry on our review of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe , GM President Mark Reuss swung by the L.A. Times office in a gleaming new Cyber Gray Metallic Stingray Convertible. On his mind were consumers' changing buying habits, the strength of the auto market in the coming years and GM's plans for diesel and hybrid powertrains in its vehicles. How about a hybrid Corvette? "Actually, don't laugh," Reuss said with a telling smile. PHOTOS: The 2014 Corvette Stingray in detail Using an energy recapturing system like that found on hypercars such as Ferrari's LaFerrari or McLaren's P1 -- both hybrids -- presents many advantages.

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe is just weeks away from rolling into dealerships. When it does, it will bring with it 455 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, a zero-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds for properly equipped models, and a starting price of around $52,000. Highway 1 recently spent a day testing the seventh-generation Corvette. What did we think of it? Read the review here . The roar of eight cylinders echoes off the hillsides as the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray rushes past vineyards and sun-faded barns. The magnetic suspension grips the uneven pavement; the manual gearbox rips through seven crisp shifts as the horizon blurs. After months of anticipation and hype, Chevrolet is finally letting the next-generation Corvette out for test drives as the automotive media descends on Monterey Car Week. Though brief, our dalliance with a coupe version revealed that General Motors has hit the mark, balancing a towering legacy with the technological demands of a new century.

The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has yet to put a single tire into dealer showrooms, but already the tuner market is drooling over the possibilities the seventh-generation icon presents. One such company is Hennessey Performance. This Texas-based shop is responsible for the 265-mph Venom GT and a host of hyper-fast upgrades to cars like the Cadillac CTS-V, SRT Viper and Ferrari 458. On Monday, Hennessey announced it was getting into the Corvette Stingray business.
