A commodities brokerage headed by Chicago Board of Trade Chairman Karsten Mahlmann may have found its financial savior, the firm's parent company indicated Thursday. Stotler Group Inc., one of the nation's 10 biggest commodities brokerages, said it had accepted an unidentified investor's "conditional offer to purchase a substantial equity interest" in it. Mahlmann is managing partner of Stotler Group's principal subsidiary, Stotler & Co.

The government said today that it filed a two-count administrative complaint against Stotler & Co., a registered futures commission merchant, and accepted an offer of settlement from the firm. In the complaint filed Tuesday, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission charged that from Dec. 31 to June 30, the Chicago-based company maintained "its adjusted net capital at a level that was at least $3.

Former Chicago Board of Trade Chairman Karsten Mahlmann has accepted a job as chief of the London office of Rosenthal-Collins Group, a Chicago-based futures brokerage. Mahlmann resigned as leader of the world's largest commodities exchange in August amid problems at Stotler & Co., the now-defunct brokerage he headed. Rosenthal-Collins is run by Leslie Rosenthal, a political opponent of Mahlmann who opposed him in last year's election for exchange chairmanship.
