Street closures in downtown Los Angeles for the public funeral for an LAPD officer who was killed last week in a Beverly Hills crash was slowing the morning work commute. The funeral for Officer Nicholas Lee, a 16-year department veteran, was scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels , after which, a  procession will end at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where Lee will be interred. To accommodate the funeral, officials closed Hill Street between Ord and 1st streets, Temple Street between Grand Avenue and Broadway, and the northbound side of Grand between 1st and Temple - slowing the morning work commute through downtown after they took effect at 6:30 a.m. PHOTOS: Fatal collision in Beverly Hills California Gov. Numerous streets will be closed Sunday for the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade along Hollywood and Sunset boulevards. Buzz Aldrin, Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow from "Leave it to Beaver," Richie Sambora, Billy Ray Cyrus, LeAnn Rimes, William Shatner and Kenny Loggins are scheduled to make appearance at the parade or a concert set for Sunday afternoon. In addition to street closures, the Highland Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard exits of the 101 Freeway will be closed Sunday afternoon and evening.

Marathon: WEATHER (Warm) Scott Sukup of the National Weather Service in Oxnard said that the temperature around race time Sunday in downtown L.A. will likely be in the mid-50s and then heat up into the low 80s later in the day. "It should be a pretty nice day - warm, it'll be warm by the afternoon," Sukup said . TRAFFIC (Problematic) The street closures will be in various places in Los Angeles, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.  To try to ward off congestion and commuter frustration, marathon officials have issued a course closure grid , a map of additional streets that will be closed on Sunday and various other maps and tools to navigate across the county that morning.

The Discover America International Pow Wow, a convention of travel agents, will force closure of several streets on Bunker Hill in downtown Los Angeles today and Thursday. 1. 5th Street between Flower Street and Grand Avenue was closed Tuesday and will not reopen until noon Thursday. 2. As runners and walkers make their way from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica during Sunday's L.A. Marathon, motorists will face widespread rolling street closures that will surround the route. The street closures will be in various places in Los Angeles, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.  To try to ward off congestion and commuter frustration, marathon officials have issued a course closure grid , a map of additional streets that will be closed on Sunday and various other maps and tools to navigate across the county on Sunday.

Numerous roads in the West Hollywood area will be closed Sunday for the L.A. Pride Parade and festival - one of the largest gay pride events in the country. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the parade, which begins at 11 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Santa Monica and Crescent Heights boulevards. It will travel westbound, ending at the intersection of Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards. The following streets will be closed, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department station in West Hollywood: -- Crescent Heights Boulevard from Romaine Street to Fountain Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

A compromise that would scale down a proposed commercial development near the affluent Holly Glen neighborhood threatened to unravel this week because of a disagreement on a street closing. The City Council voted on Monday to put up a 90-day traffic barrier at Glasgow Place and 142nd Way in the Holly Glen area.

Considering a study on the roadways above Ventura High School, the City Council today will weigh several alternatives for closing or opening hillside streets to improve traffic flow. The review is the latest in a long-running debate over hillside traffic, problems that stem from decisions made four years ago to close during school hours a section of Poli Street that bisects Ventura High School. The move was affirmed by voters during a citywide referendum in November 1994.

A block of Hollywood Boulevard will be closed Sunday night, one of several street closures expected in the days leading up to the 86 th Academy Awards. All lanes on Hollywood Boulevard will be closed from Orange Drive to Highland Avenue at 10 p.m. and will remain closed until 6 a.m. on March 4. Sidewalks and alleys were also slated to be closed Sunday, the Academy said in a statement. The north sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Dolby Theatre will be completely closed at 10 p.m. The south sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard between Orange Drive and Highland Avenue was closed at 6 p.m., except for an 8-foot pedestrian walkway.

Plan ahead if you want to get around downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, when May Day demonstrations are expected to bring area traffic to a grinding halt. Some 30,000 people are expected to gather at Olympic Boulevard and Figueroa Street Wednesday to demonstrate in favor of comprehensive immigration reform. Streets and intersections throughout the area will begin closing at 6 a.m. and won't reopen until as late as 9 p.m. Most intersections on either side of Broadway -- Hill and Spring streets, between Olympic and Ord Street -- will be closed.

A recycling company is planning an expansion that would add as many as 200 employees and will ask the City Council today to close parts of some city streets to make way for the project. Taormina Industries Inc. said it plans to acquire property valued at about $10 million and add to its existing 300,000-square-foot facility at 1131 N. Blue Gum St. The streets involved, already surrounded by Taormina-owned property, are Gretta Lane and Coronado, La Mesa and Blue Gum streets.

Because of street construction work in Westpark, the city's newest village, motorists who use Harvard Avenue between Barranca Parkway and Main Street will have to find an alternate route for the next week. The road closure is expected to be the first of eight required on Harvard Avenue through next fall. A spokesman for the Irvine Co., which is developing Westpark, said the street closures are necessary to build underground pipelines and other necessary equipment for future Westpark residents.

Hours before the L.A. Marathon got underway Sunday, thousands of cyclists gathered at Sunset Boulevard and Fountain Avenue in Silver Lake, preparing for their own big race. Some stretched. Others chatted. A few did practice runs down side streets. "The mentality is almost always us versus them, bikes versus cars," said Lyndsay McKeever, 24, after pinning on her racing number. "This is the one day a year that we get to be free. " Minutes later, she joined the scrum of bicyclists swarming the intersection in preparation for the annual Wolfpack Hustle Marathon Crash Race.

CicLAvia -- the cultural event promoting car-less urban spaces -- is returning to downtown L.A. on Sunday. The objective of CicLAvia -- derived from ciclovia , the Spanish word for "bike way" -- is to "encourage safe, vibrant public spaces, sustainable transportation, and public health through a program of car-free street events," according to the website. Organizers said that nine miles of streets will be closed temporarily to motorized vehicles, with access allowed only to walkers, runners, skaters and cyclists.
