U.S. national team midfielder Stuart Holden will miss the remainder of World Cup qualifying and could miss next summer's tournament in Brazil after being diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee following an MRI evaluation Monday in Chicago. Holden will consult with the medical teams of U.S. Soccer and Bolton Wanderers, his club team, to formulate a treatment plan. Holden sustained the injury in the 18 th minute of the USA's 1-0 win against Panama in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup final Sunday.

Before Tuesday's closed practice at StubHub Center in Carson, U.S. national team Coach Juergen Klinsmann gathered his team together at midfield to introduce a familiar face. "Welcome back, Stu!" Klinsmann said enthusiastically. The players responded with a round of applause for Stuart Holden, whose return to training marked a significant step forward in his comeback from the right anterior cruciate ligament tear he sustained in July's Gold Cup final, the last of eight games he played for the U.S. in 2013.

Steve Nash held his sixth annual Steve Nash Foundation's Showdown NYC, a charity soccer event benefiting underserved children, on June 26 at Sara D. Roosevelt Park. Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes will televise the event as one-hour specials (English/Spanish) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, including the full game and a behind-the-scenes look at the event. Nash was joined on the soccer pitch by NBA players Joakim Noah and Marco Belinelli -- along with soccer stars Giuseppe Rossi, Mikel Alonso, Massimo Ambrosini, Sammy Ameobi, Emmerson Boyce, Stuart Holden, Sacha Kljestan, Oguchi Onyewu, Simone Sandri and Richie Williams.

HOUSTON -- Chivas USA's Brad Guzan had five saves and Houston's Pat Onstad made three as the two teams played to a scoreless tie Saturday night. Before the game, Houston received its championship rings for winning the MLS Cup championship. The two teams, who entered the game first and second in the league in fouls, tied the MLS season-high with eight yellow cards and one red card. Referee Jozef Batko whistled four yellows on Houston (0-2-4) and four yellows and a red on Chivas USA (1-3-2).

HOUSTON -- Brian Ching and Brad Davis led Houston to the Western Conference finals Friday night, scoring in overtime after the Dynamo beat FC Dallas, 2-1, in regulation to tie the two-game, total-goals series. The Dynamo will face tonight's winner of the Kansas City-Chivas USA series. Stuart Holden and Ching had second-half goals to help Houston win the game, 2-1, tying the series at two goals apiece. Dallas won the opener, 1-0, last Saturday. That sent the game into two 15-minute extra periods.

Stuart Holden scored in first-half injury time, and the Houston Dynamo extended its winning streak to four games with a 1-0 victory over Chivas USA on Wednesday night. The Dynamo (7-2-3) also ran its unbeaten streak to nine (7-0-2) and moved to within three points of Chivas (8-3-3) for the Western Conference lead. Holden scored off a pass from newly acquired Cam Weaver.
