The fate of a popular park director remains up in the air after a city Recreation and Parks Department announcement Friday that it has not decided whether to reassign Jon Klay. Klay, director of the Studio City Recreation Center, was the subject of a petition drive by park users who sought to keep him at the park. Klay's supporters praised Klay as someone who expanded programming and created a sense of community at the park.

The city will decide within a couple of weeks if popular Studio City park director Jon Klay will remain at his current post, Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department General Manager Jackie Tatum said Thursday. The decision has been delayed, Tatum said, "because I want to make sure we look at everything thoroughly." Department workers are gathering information "of a personnel nature" that will help Tatum make a decision, she said.

City Councilman Mike Feuer's office said Wednesday that the head of the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks has agreed to reconsider the transfer of the Studio City Recreation Center director, a decision that had the community up in arms. According to Feuer spokesman Howard Gantman, department General Manager Jackie Tatum agreed to "review and reassess" Jon Klay's transfer to a Sun Valley park and make a decision in 30 days. Klay will stay at his Studio City post until Feb.
