Crime reports are up significantly for the latest week in 10 L.A. neighborhoods, according to an analysis of LAPD data by the Los Angeles Times' Crime L.A. database . Four neighborhoods reported a significant increase in violent crime. Studio City (A) was the most unusual: five reports compared with a weekly average of 1.2 over the last three months. Westlake (E) topped the list of six neighborhoods with property crime alerts. It recorded 46 property crimes compared with its weekly average of 33.0 over the last three months.

Jackson Rathbone, who plays a vampire in the “Twilight” movie series, has bought a home in Studio City for $1.2 million, The Times has confirmed. The seller was electronic music pioneer Erez Eisen, who bought another house for $820,000. Set in the Colfax Meadows area, the ranch-style home Rathbone bought includes a recently built professional-grade recording studio with a voice booth. The 2,500-square-foot home, built in 1938, has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There's a lagoon-style swimming pool with a tropical vibe, according to Trulia , which also reported that Rathbone recently sold a Hollywood Hills home for $1.75 million.

One day, mid-summer, I stopped by Benning Violins in Studio City for repairs on a friend's cello. German-born Hans Benning was at his work station, a violin on his bench and a wood plane in his strong, lean hand. To his left was his son, Eric. And next to Eric was Eric's son, Nathan. All three wore shop aprons and the fine dust of aged, hand-picked Bavarian and Bosnian spruce and maple. Nathan, 13, was busy. Head down, he was working on a project that filled his dad and grandfather with pride.

Guitarist-songwriter Billy Howerdel has sold his Studio City house for $1.825 million. The Mediterranean-style two-story, built in 2007, features 10-foot ceilings, three fireplaces, five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms in 4,000 square feet. Outdoor amenities include a kitchen with granite counters and a barbecue, a patio misting system, a fireplace, a swimming pool and a spa. Howerdel, 43, is a founding member of the rock band A Perfect Circle. He has worked as a guitar technician for bands including Tool, Nine Inch Nails and Guns N' Roses.

A pilot who twice lost his flying license for buzzing the Santa Monica Pier and illegally selling rides to the public was missing after he crashed his small plane in China, state news media reported. David G. Riggs was reportedly flying a Lancair 320, a high-performance single-engine aircraft made from a kit, when he struck the surface of a lake outside Shenyang, where he was planning to perform in an air show. An 18-year-old woman serving as his translator was killed in the crash, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

Paramount Chief Executive Brad Grey and his wife, Cassandra, have listed their estate in Bel-Air at $27.5 million. Built in 2006, the traditional-style mansion is gated and sits on more than an acre of land. Features within the 10,616 square feet of living space include a two-story entry with a curved staircase, a paneled den with a bar, a living/media room, a gym, a Pilates studio, five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Actor Dennis Quaid has sold a house for $3.315 million in Pacific Palisades. The contemporary had been on the market since only mid-August. He purchased the remodeled home for $3.1 million earlier this year, several months after he and Kimberly Quaid filed for divorce a second time. They have since reconciled.
