A pair of runaway boys who made a suicide pact with their 12-year-old girlfriend killed themselves after a state trooper pulled over their stolen car. A man arrested on a biological weapons charge for having a lethal extract of the castor bean plant committed suicide Saturday in his jail cell. Thomas Lewis Lavy hanged himself sometime overnight, said his attorney, Sam Heuer, who did not give any details. He was pronounced dead at 7 a.m. CST at University Hospital. Lavy, 54, was arrested Wednesday at his farm in northern Arkansas.

A paraplegic man who was wanted in the sexual assault and shooting of two women in Compton killed himself Tuesday in Arkansas when police arrived at a home to arrest another man, officials said. Jerome Coulter, 24, who was sought in the Sept. 28, 1991, attacks near Compton College, shot himself in the chest with a 9-millimeter handgun and died in the back room of a home in Little Rock, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Irma Becerra.

The ex-wife of a state trooper who is a co-defendant in a sexual harassment lawsuit against President Clinton died in an apparent suicide. Kathy Ferguson, 37, was found dead of a gunshot wound to the right temple early Wednesday at the home of her boyfriend, said Mark Malcolm, chief deputy coroner for Pulaski County. Her death was being investigated as a suicide, said Ray Snider, a police spokesman. A note apparently written by Ferguson was found near her body.

Mourners of three teen-agers who killed themselves were told at the first victim's funeral in Sheridan, Ark., that it was too late to bring him back, but going with him was "still our choice." Thomas Smith, 17, was the first of three suicides among students at Sheridan High School in two days, and counselors for their classmates were on 24-hour call. About 250 people packed into a chapel to hear the Rev. Dennis Moon urge them to cling to God as they grieved over Smith's death.

A police informant who testified last week in the cocaine-sale trial of the son of Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders has been found dead of an apparent suicide, authorities said. The body of Calvin R. Walraven, 24, was found inside his home Thursday with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police spokesman Tim Hoover said. "No foul play is suspected," Hoover said.
