Sunny Hills running backs Adam Rodriguez and Kevin Haiola combined for 30 carries and carried the Lancers to the Freeway League championship with a 34-7 victory over Fullerton Friday night at Fullerton High. Rodriguez had 17 rushes for 205 yards and scored the Lancers' first two touchdowns. Haiola had 83 yards and one touchdown in 13 carries, reaching the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season. "Our players did a very good job tonight," Sunny Hills Coach Tim Devaney said.

If Sunny Hills hopes to ride the success of its doubles teams deeper into the Southern Section Division II playoffs, it might be time to step on the gas. The fourth-seeded Lancers slipped past Oxnard Rio Mesa, 10-8, in the quarterfinals Tuesday at the Sunny Hills Racquet Club, but needed to win one of the final two sets to advance. Sunny Hills will play top-seeded North Hollywood Harvard Westlake in the semifinals Thursday.

Chris Chung lost only two games and Sunny Hills dropped two sets as the fourth-ranked Lancers dominated singles play in their 12-6 victory over No. 10 Garden Grove in a nonleague boys' tennis match Wednesday at Garden Grove. Sunny Hills (2-2) also showed its improved doubles play against the Argonauts by winning five of nine sets, including a 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 sweep by Raj Vyas and Tuji Chang.

Jeff White went two for four with two runs batted in to lead Sunny Hills High School to a 6-2 victory over Carlsbad Saturday in a consolation game of the Cowboy baseball tournament in Las Vegas. Scott Adams went two for three with an RBI and two stolen bases for Sunny Hills (7-5). Brian Veronda (2-0) pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and striking out six.
