Six Flags Magic Mountain is expected to add a terrain-hugging launched roller coaster in 2013 featuring the world's tallest loop, according to an employee who wasn't authorized to speak on behalf of the amusement park. A Magic Mountain mechanic inadvertently revealed closely guarded facts about the record-setting  attraction while casually talking with a group of coaster enthusiasts during the recent West Coast Bash event at the Valencia amusement park. Details of the conversation quickly appeared on the Theme Park Review  website and rapidly spread through the online coaster community.

For the first time in months, Steve Mihalovits, 17, slept in. He rolled out of bed shortly after noon Saturday--only because his teammate woke him. The national finals of the Academic Decathlon were over. No more tests. No more essays. No more speeches. And no more studying. Steve and three of his teammates from Simi Valley High School, Randy Xu, 17, Cary Opel, 18, and Justin Underhill, 17, spent Saturday at Fiesta Texas amusement park.

The Full Throttle launch coaster debuting at Six Flags Magic Mountain in 2013 will feature a record-setting vertical loop that riders traverse twice -- once on the inside and again on the outside. > Photos: Full Throttle coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain The one-of-a-kind terrain-hugging roller coaster will have three launches -- two forward and one backward out of a special effects tunnel. > Photos: New attractions coming to Six Flags parks in 2013 As planned by designers, Full Throttle riders will be launched from the station, going from zero to 70 mph through the world's tallest loop and into a series of high-banked turns.
