Ten Southern California surgery centers once affiliated with the defunct 1-800-GET-THIN advertising campaign are suing UnitedHealth Group Inc. to get reimbursed for hundreds of Lap-Band weight-loss procedures. The lawsuit comes amid federal and state investigations into allegations that the surgery centers defrauded UnitedHealth Group and other insurance companies, according to a government affidavit and a demand letter filed in two federal court cases. The 1-800-GET-THIN ads once blanketed Southern California freeway billboards and broadcast airwaves, but the campaign was halted after the Food and Drug Administration said the ads failed to disclose adequately the risks of weight-loss surgery.

Matt Kemp is coming! Matt Kemp is coming! Exactly when is another matter. Currently on the 15-day disabled list, he cannot be activated until April 4 - and could be. "It's a possibility," Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly said. BEIT HANOUN, Gaza Strip - When I first met Abdullah Alathamna four years ago, he was laid up at a children's hospital in Los Angeles, his right leg bound in a cast. He was pale, and grouchy from the pain pills. He was not at all interested in answering questions from a reporter. He was an 11-year-old kid, injured and without his family, more than 7,000 miles from his home in the northern Gaza Strip. The Palestinian youngster lost a foot in 2006 when the Israeli military accidentally shelled his house and several others while targeting militants who had launched rockets into Israel.

Frank Jobe batted third at Cooperstown last summer, in the annual awards ceremony on the Saturday before the induction ceremony. Paul Hagen led off, a distinguished baseball writer from Philadelphia. Shirley Cheek followed, the widow of the late Tom Cheek, a beloved broadcaster for the Toronto Blue Jays. The names of Paul Hagen and Tom Cheek would be forever displayed within the Hall of Fame. Jobe's award did not come with a permanent place inside the Hall of Fame -- an error that ought to be rectified forthwith -- but the good doctor nonetheless was delighted with his moment in the Cooperstown sun. Jobe rose to his feet, slowly.
