Antiperspirants are just the beginning for that way-too-sweaty feeling. There are also clinical-strength antiperspirants, oral medications, Botox injections and a treatment involving trays of water and electrical current. This probably goes without saying, but we've found it's best to take nothing for granted. So: Do not try the latter treatment at home. Ditto a nerve-snipping procedure. All of these anti-sweating solutions (and we should note these are for hard-core sweaters, not run-of-the-mill-sweating-because-it's-hot sweaters)

From pale smoke to deep charcoal, gray is the season's most important, most versatile color for designer suits and sportswear. Finish these outfits with shirts, sweaters and accessories in camel, white or black, and getting dressed is an open-and-shut case. And now that synthetic blends have put stretch in gray flannel, many of the best clothes provide comfort even when cut to fit close to the body. This fall, the good guys will be wearing gray.

Dolores Fuller, the onetime actress-girlfriend of cross-dressing schlock movie director Ed Wood who co-starred with Wood in his low-budget 1950s cult classic "Glen or Glenda," has died. She was 88. Fuller, whose show business career included writing the lyrics to a dozen Elvis Presley movie songs, died Monday at her home in Las Vegas after a long illness, said her stepdaughter, Susan Chamberlin. As the former girlfriend and two-time leading lady for the legendary filmmaker who came to be known as the world's worst movie director, Fuller became something of a cult figure herself in her later years.

L.A. fashion week took center stage this month, with several familiar and some not-so-familiar labels showing collections to buyers and the media. But off the runway, there's a fairly new crop of promising contemporary brands that didn't participate in fashion week events but are worth knowing about because of the way they capture the L.A. lifestyle through their easy, wearable and versatile pieces for women. Offering wares as varied as menswear-inspired sweaters and ultra-feminine silk dresses, these designers have keen fashion and business sense, creating practical pieces at a mostly palatable price point.

I've hooked rugs; cabled sweaters; zigzagged afghans; stitched flowers and cowboys; embroidered bunnies, dinosaurs, trains and birds flying above the alphabet of an American sampler. Billions of stitches. Needlework requires patience, dexterity, and a lot of mental calculating so pieces fit together and designs blend. It is both relaxing and stimulating. I often feel a great sense of accomplishment.

I can't believe the Rams are considering hiring Chuck Knox as head coach. He has been a head coach in the NFL for more than 15 years and hasn't taken one team to the Super Bowl. Coaches such as Knox, John Robinson and Jim Mora are good enough to take their teams to the playoffs, but then they end up choking. The coach this team needs is Buddy Ryan. Although he is not one of my favorite people, he would change the Rams from lambs to the bullies on the block. Right now, that's what this team needs to survive in the NFC West.

Handmade baby booties and blankets, tiny sweaters, hats and quilts are given away by the hundreds every year to needy young mothers as an incentive to complete a free prenatal care class. "Operation Stork," a project started seven years ago by Camarillo B'nai B'rith Women, donates layettes--assortments of clothing, blankets and such supplies as baby powder and oil--to the Ventura Medical Center as gifts to women who complete a series of classes on how to care for newborn babies.
