They may be pipsqueaks in the $3-billion-a-year worldwide music business, but a handful of local entrepreneurs are making a lot of noise among hard-core consumers of rock 'n' roll gear. Valley companies started in garages by struggling guitar players--with firm names such as Groove Tubes, Matchless, Soldano, SWR and VHT--are selling guitar and bass amplifiers to famous musicians and scores of garden-variety players willing to pay $2,000 and up for an amplifier and speakers.
