An Easter hunt of another sort has been planned for Saturday at El Cariso Park, where any child--not just the best at rooting out and hoarding eggs--can win a prize. As part of its El Cariso Park Project, the Mountains Education Program has organized a nature scavenger hunt in which children will have to find six objects, show them to program officials and return them to where they were found.

Like the uphill battle a ragtag Mexican army faced against a much larger, better-equipped French army 132 years ago, Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon on Thursday had the tough task of trying to explain the significance of Cinco de Mayo to a group of noisy, fidgety elementary school kids. And like the small Mexican army in 1862, Alarcon also scored a victory.
