Paul Cormier resigned as Fairfield's coach to accept the newly created position of associate athletic director. "After several discussions with administration, it was decided that a change was necessary," said Cormier, who posted an 86-111 record in seven years as coach of the Stags. His team was 12-15 this season. * Another Fresno State player was in trouble just days after the arrests of two Bulldogs accused of robbing and beating up an acquaintance.

Model Christy Turlington and actor Woody Harrelson did a good deed for fashion without knowing it. They helped Elizabeth Minetree launch an accessories business. It began last spring when fashion stylist Minetree designed silky Jacquard vests with unusual buttons for the waiters at Piazza Rodeo cafe. Turlington and Harrelson liked them so much they wanted one. So did a lot of other people. Finally, a waiter suggested he and Minetree go into the vest-making business full time.

New York fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi is going Hollywood. His press director, Nina Santisi, says he will play a fashion designer in a new movie, "The Concierge," by director Barry Sonnenfeld. There'll be a fashion show in the film, probably set in the SoHo loft where Mizrahi presented his fall line just last week. This won't be the designer's Hollywood debut. He had a small part in the 1980 film "Fame." There might be another role coming his way soon.

John Goldhammer, track and field coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, says Elisha Peterson is like most others on his team. Only 18, Peterson is still improving as a distance runner. He's not a leader, not a captain. And physically, nothing stands out about him. "You couldn't tell him from any other college student," Goldhammer said. But Peterson is far from the average college student. Peterson enrolled at Harvey Mudd College when he was only 15.

The world, it seems, is divided between women who wear lingerie and women who wear underwear. Restaurant designer Barbara Lazaroff, proud member of the lingerie set, recounts a horrifying sight: her pregnant girlfriend clad in tattered cotton panties. "When I was pregnant, I wore my La Perlas," Lazaroff says triumphantly. "And they only go up to Size 4." Decorated with vintage girdles floating amid crystal chandeliers, the Chic & Cheap Emporium in Beverly Hills is a lingerie person's nirvana.
