Staying Power If USC and UCLA are fair indications, fullbacks are homebodies who don't mind sharing. Valley products Ted Iacenda of Hart High and Marvin Powell of Birmingham split playing time at fullback for the Trojans, and Durell Price of Sylmar and Craig Walendy of Westlake do the same for the Bruins.

What happened to Hart High's football team? The one with the no-huddle, two- minute- scoring- drive offense? The normally high-scoring Indians (3-0) used a ball-control running game to beat Westlake, 20-7, Friday night at Newbury Park High in a game matching teams expected to contend for Southern Section titles. "We've got a good running back and a great line," Hart Coach Mike Herrington said. "We wanted to control the ball.

Sophomore fullback Ted Iacenda will sit out the rest of the season because he needs arthroscopic procedures on both shoulders and might require reconstructive surgery on both. "It's real disappointing," said Iacenda, who started in four games ahead of senior Rodney Sermons before being injured. "I just want to do what's best to get healthy for next spring." Iacenda is scheduled for arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder next week to determine whether he needs reconstructive surgery.

USC and Stanford started the season ranked in the Top 25, but each is 4-4 overall and they're tied for fifth in the Pacific 10 Conference. Stanford was 18th in the preseason poll and USC was 22nd, but when they meet at the Coliseum on Saturday, there will be no Rose Bowl implications. Instead, the loser will have to win its final two games and beat a ranked opponent to avoid a losing season.
