Thinking of buying a flying car? You may want to go D u tch . The Netherlands company PAL-V (Personal Air and Land Vehicle) said its flying car prototype has successfully completed several test flights in the past two weeks.  Coincidentally -- (or not) -- this news came in the same week that the U.S. flying car company Terrafugia announced it had completed a successful test flight of its own flying car market prototype, the Transition. That's right people, when it comes to flying cars, you've got choices.

Want to watch a car take flight? You are in luck. Terrafugia, makers of Transition -- the world's first flying car -- has released video of a production-type prototype flying over Plattsburgh, N.Y. today. The flight was the first successful test of the two-seat personal aircraft that you can park in your garage, drive on the road and fill up at a gas station. "This is a very exciting time for Terrafugia," said Carl Dietrich, the company's CEO and CTO. "We are on our way up -- literally and figuratively!"

A flying car is being unveiled this week at the New York Auto Show, and we can't help but wonder: If the roads are jam-packed with crazy drivers now, what would it be like if they all had flying cars? The manufacturer, Terrafugia of Woborn, Mass., reports that it's already received more than 100 preorders for its flying car -- the Transition. The $279,000 dual-use vehicle sports folding wings and rugged, all-terrain wheels that will allow it to transition smoothly from the driveway to the roadway to the runway and beyond.
